How to upgrade RAM and install SATA drive in E15 without losing warranty?

2020-07-10, 1:54 AM

I received my Thinkpad E15 and would like to upgrade the RAM by adding a module to make it dual channel, and possibly throw in an SATA hard disk. How do I do it without losing warranty?

Will replacing the M.2 SSD drive it comes with with my own surely void my warranty?

I would leave the M.2 SSD alone, and just add a SATA HDD/SDD for additional storage space, because the M.2 SSD as the boot drive is much faster than a SATA HDD, and if it is a M.2 NVME SSD, much faster than a SATA SSD too.

Per that Psref for that model, there is only one memory slot, so if you already have 8GB, you would have to remove that and replace it with a 16GB SODIMM

Typically if you open the system up yourself it will not void the warranty, but make sure to read and follow the instructions in the Hardware Maintenance Manual (starts on page 79)
