Installing Windows 10 on blank E595

2019-12-26, 21:19 PM

Hey guys,

I have difficulties installing windows 10 on my new blank E595 (no OS installed).

Here is what happens:

When I select the USB-Stick (with the Windows 10-iso on it) and press enter in the bootloader menu, the screen turns dark for a second and then redirects to the bootloader menu again, so effectively nothing happens.

Here is what I did so far:

  • I downloaded the Windows 10 64-bit education edtion from this website: https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/software-download/vlacademicwindows10iso
  • Formatted a 30 GB usb-stick to exFat on my Mac Book, using Disk Utility.
  • Copied the iso to the usb-stick.
  • Put the stick into the E595 an started it.
  • Select the usb-stick in the bootloader menu (which is listed as USB HDD: SanDisk Ultra).
  • I did all the above steps also with formating the stick to FAT32 and copying the 32-Bit edition with the same result.

Can you help me?
Thanks

Maddes

Hi Maddes,

You cannot use a .ISO file to make a bootable USB Stick.    The .ISO is a CD or DVD image (similar to a .DMG file on a MAC) that can only be used to create/burn a CD/DVD.      The .ISO is essentially just a compressed image of a bootabe CD/DVD, but by itself not bootable by Windows.

In order to create a bootable USB drive to install Windows 10 on your E595, you will have to find another Windows 7. 8.1 or 10 system to create the USB drive using the Media Creation Tool.     The Media Creation tool will format the USB stick, make it bootable, and copy over the uncompressed files needed to Install Windows 10.    Once that is completed, you will be able to select it from the boot menu and in it will then boot up to the Windows installation process properly.

If your E595 had a optical CD/DVD drive, you could have used Roxio's Toast to burn the .ISO to a DVD and then booted the E595 tp the DVD to install Windows.

If you are going to be installing in UEFI mode, it isn't necessary to use the media creation tool if you already have the ISO handy.

Copy the _contents_ of  the ISO - not the ISO itself - to a FAT32-formatted flash drive.  If you have Win 10 running on something you can use Windows Explorer to extract the contents.  If not, something like the free 7zip will do the job.

He JDGillis, thanks a lot!

On my Mac I simply double clicked the ISO-Image which resulted in this unzipped folder:

Since I'm not at my E595: I simply copy the content of this folder to the usb-stick and then I should be ready to go, right?

Thanks a lot so far!

It looks like the folder has the required boot files to let the system boot, so yes it looks like it should work.

Best of luck,

Yes you can chose between Legacy or UEFI first from the Startup screen in the BIOS.

Re: Installing Windows 10 on blank E595

Hi guys,

I fear I'm not a 100 % there yet.

The Boot Menu still doesn't do anything but redirecting me back, when I select the USB-Stick with the unzipped ISO on it.

Sadly there is no error log I can refer to, so I'm pretty dumbstruck by now.

Here are some steps I took:

  • At first I formatted the stick in ExFat, since Fat32 wasn't able to hold the 'sources'-folder of the windows-64 image due to its size.
  • In the boot menu 'UEFI-boot' was priorized , so I figured that I might switch back to legacy BIOS, but that led to the same menu on restart, so I figure UEFI and legacy are identical on this machine.
  • Further I formatted the stick to Fat32 and copied the 32-bit version of Windows on it, but that resulted in the same redirecting behaviour.

Do you have any suggestions?
