Intel driver 22.40.0.7 corrupt and not working on Lenovo

2021-06-09, 12:43 PM

Dear all,

First of all it was quite a struggle to get here.... I tried using my (old) user account but the community wouldn't let me in. Password not working, username not working, email address not working, new password not received. So I signed up new again using my previous credentials and got the notice that my email address is already in use....however it is not recognised?! Pfff that doesn't predict any good....

Back to my topic:

Maybe you can help me out here. I have a fairly new Lenovo E15 laptop with Intel WiFi 6 AX201 160 MHz in it. I use it for business so no loads of apps or games installed. It is connected to an older Linksys WRT54G on wireless-G standard 54 mbit. Until the last driver update it worked fine. However Windows automatically shoves driver update 22.40.0.7 through my throat and this driver is not working at all. Connection drops every 5 minutes, it is slow as hell and after 15 minutes no connection to be made at all anymore.

I tried every trick in the book there is. Resetting router, resetting wireless adapter, resetting Windows stack through command prompt, changing channels etc. etc. Nothing works. The only thing that works is rolling back to previous driver version 22.10.0.7. Than instantly all works like a charm again.

The problem is that Windows update keeps installing this crappy driver and I constantly have to roll back. Good to know that Lenovo does present driver version 22.40.0.7 as the latest on her support website for my machine. However the Lenovo Vantage update software doesn't show and install it automatically. It states that my system is up to date with previous driver version 22.10.0.7. I did download the latest driver manually from the Lenovo support website and installed it to see if it makes any difference to the driver Windows update pushes, but no luck, same issues.

So it is obvious that all hardware is working fine, and to be honest, all software also, except the latest Intel driver. And it's kind of fishy that Lenovo doesn't offer the update automatically through its Vantage update software.  Windows is up to date, version 20H2 build 19042.1052.

What to do here?

Thanks for your help and greetz!

I have the same laptop (E15), with the same Intel WiFi 6 AX201 160 MHz device and driver version 22.40.0.7. Until now no problem whatsoever. The only difference is that I am connecting with a 5GHz connection.

You wrote that your Windows version is up-to-date (20H2) but I have a newer version (Windows 10 Pro): 21H1 build 19043.1052

Hi AlfredvH,

Thanks for your reply!

Maybe the problem only occurs when connected to a WiFi G-standard 54 mbit, I don't know. However it should still work properly on that standard also.

The Windows update you mention is sometimes shown as an optional update in my Windows update center and not pushed/installed automatically. Today however it strangely isn't shown. Maybe because I just installed the monthly cumulative update? Most of the times I await automatic install. That way I'm pretty sure it's safe to proceed...

Regards, Master

Hi everyone,

I tried to get help on the Intel Community also. See my thread here:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless/Intel-driver-22-40-0-7-corrupt-and-not-working-on-Lenovo/td-p/1288434

User n_scott_pearson replied with the remark that Wireless driver 22.50.1 and bluetooth driver 22.50.0 are the latest for Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160 MHz adapter. However he advices me to inform weather driver packages are modified by Lenovo before the are released.

Could somebody please tell me if that is the case or not? In other words, are the new wireless driver 22.50.1 and bluetooth driver 22.50.0 compatible with my Lenovo E15 machine and safe to install...?

Thank you in advance!

Well thank you Lenovo for no help at all...... :(

Nothing works. Reset machine totally with no result.

WiFi seems to be working fine on N-standard. It just won't communicate properly anymore on G-standard. Connection drops constantly and is very slow for as long the connection is established.

Lame....

Hi there!

Greetings

Sorry for the late reply as it appears that you had a good peer-to-peer discussion here.

There would appear a delay on version update in Vantage as compared to the support site.

Vantage would need to check its database and compare it with your model variant to apply which ones to suggest.

You may also have noticed that previously Windows have the drivers as optional where users have a choice but with Win10 seems they are forcing it all together as an important update

Check on this discussion as it may be worth to try otherwise creating a system restore point and doing rollback driver for now;

Re:Intel driver 22.40.0.7 corrupt and not working on Lenovo

Thank you for your reply Jwes_Lenovo.

Lenovo now offers driver update 22.40.0.7 through Vantage software, no result.

I installed latest Intel driver 22.50.1 to see if it makes any difference, no result.

I reset my machine to factory settings, no result.

Only a roll back to version 22.10.0.7 does fix this issue.

So I guess it's pretty safe to say that the driver is corrupt as of version 22.40.0.7 for G-standard connections.

I had many driver issues with Lenovo laptops, my previous ones also. Most of the time the drivers were corrupt and corrected by Lenovo (much) later. Lenovo should test better in my opinion before releasing. I can say that my other laptops by other manufacturers don't have these issues as much.

Right, because of my experiences and the simple fact that I do have to work with it, I will replace the hardware router to N-standard. I do not have the time for Lenovo to come up with a solution in the next months or so. However it still is lame...

Regards, Master

You can help us reach the right folks in Lenovo by providing your experience on the feedback section on the support site. Provide as many details as you can and don't forget to include the serial number of your machine.

I can do that, no problem. Any chance you can provide a link to the right location, I can't seem to find where I can post this?

Thanks!
