Re:Intel driver 22.40.0.7 corrupt and not working on Lenovo

Hi

Sorry for late reply.  I'm investigating the problem with internal team.  Could you provide your system type number(find it on label of base cover),  is it 20TD or 20TE? And I checked introduction of  Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G, is it this one in below link?  seems it is only support B and G standard, not N standard support. Could you let me know which type router it is?

G standard router is very old, I'm not sure if Intel AX201 WLAN card could be compatible with G standard rounter very well. But I will try to replicate issue on my side first if you could provide system type number and exact router type.  Thanks.

Hi Davey_Lenovo,

Here you have all the information you requested for and more.

System:

  • Productnumber: 20RD001DMH.
  • BIOS version: R16ET31W 1.17.
  • WLAN driver: Intel Wireless LAN Driver (Windows 10 Version 1903 or Later) - 10 [64] - 22.40.0.7 (came available in Lenovo Vantage software).
  • Other drivers: system fully up to date.

Windows version:

  • 21H1 build 19043.1055
  • Because I reset my machine to factory default, it installed the latest Windows release experiencing exact the same issues as previous Windows version 20H2.

Router:

  • Linksys WRT54G, the link you provided is the correct model.
  • Indeed 2.4 GHz, G-standard and B-standard only. I set it up to work on G-standard.
  • I have 2 of these routers with different firmware installed. Both experience exact the same issues.

Findings:

  • I reset my machine to factory settings and installed everything by the book. Windows update and Lenovo vantage software are fully up to date. Even with no additional software installed the issues persisted.
  • I reset my router and fiddled with all settings, different channel etc. The issues persisted.
  • I tested both Linksys WRT54G routers I have, both experience the same issues.
  • I installed new Intel driver 22.50.1 which isn't released by Lenovo yet for a test. The issues persisted.
  • I rolled back to previous driver version 22.10.0.7 and everything works instantly as it shoud. As far as I noticed no connection issues with this driver version.
  • I set up another N-standard router and connected to it using the latest (Lenovo) driver version 22.40.0.7 for a test. Everything works fine, no issues on N-standard up till now.

My conclusion:

As a result of all I can safely conclude that Intel WiFi 6 AX201 160 MHZ WLAN works fine with my WRT54G router on G-standard (in accordance with the driver software it should connect with every standard A/B/G/N/AC/AX). With the right driver installed all hardware and software work as they should. The latest driver update fixes some vulnerability issues. My guess is, they killed a stable G-standard connection along with it and nobody noticed up till now.

Regards, Master

Hi Master

Thanks for your very detailed information. That's important for us to replicate issue.

We checked driver release note but don't see any relevant fix could cause this issue. WRT54-G is a quite old router, I won't expect it is under engineer validation coverage. Could you check WRT54-G encryption type, WEP or TIKP? Could you switch to WPA2 AES for a trail? Thank you.

Re:Intel driver 22.40.0.7 corrupt and not working on Lenovo

Hi,

Sorry for my late reply. I can't provide a screenshot just now, but my settings were:

  • Wireless network mode: G-only
  • Wireless network name (SSID): 'irrelevant'
  • Wireless channel: I tried 1/3/6/8/9, all with the same result
  • Wireless SSID broadcast: enable
  • Mac filter: enable
  • Mac filter: permit only pc's listed to access the wireless network
  • MAC addresses were saved correct

My wireless LAN icon in the Windows traybar always showed a perfect WiFi connection during the loss of internet connection. So it seemed that the WiFi connection was established, but no internet access. However when I tried to enter the settings menu of the router it often failed to show the login menu either. I guess the connection was lost in those cases anyway...

I will reply your pm also.

Regards, Master

Hi Master

We cannot find same model router as yours but we tested TP-Link and Linksys WRT1900AC, both works in G standard. We couldn't reproduce issue.

  1. TP-Link and select 802.11g only, channel select 1, WPA2 Personal +22.40.0.7
  2. Linksys WRT1900AC with 802.11g only, channel select 3, WAP2 Personal +22.40.0.7

if you need any further support, please verify the trail driver and capture logs for us to analyze. Thank you.
