Okay. That means it doesn't switch off when plugged in?

By the way: the E531 and E540 are still _not_ ACPI compliant!

Re: Lenovo E531 Problems?

2014-05-08, 23:59 PM

So I bought 10 of these laptops for our office.  E531 i7s.   I swapped out the 500gb drives for SSD's and upgraded the ram to 8gb or 16gb depending on the users. These laptops - while they feel a little chintzy are amazingly fast. My team has been very impressed and happy!

Today I have 3 reports of a crazy problem.

During normal usage - they suddenly start "screaming" or "making a high pitched noise" with some vibration. My only thought is that something is up with the CPU fan. It is very strange - I have 10 of these machines and if this starts happening to everyone.....it will be a mess.

Anyone have any ideas?

My users freak out - the sound starts and won't stop.  The only way to get it to stop is to physically turn the laptop off.

I appreciate all the help.

Thank you.

I don't think our issue is with loud fans.

This is a very high pitched screetching noise.  So loud that people in cubicles away can hear it.

I'm sorry to say that but which notebook wouldn't be fast having an i7 processor, 8/16GB RAM and especially an ssd?!?? There is nothing special about :smileysurprised::smileytongue:

True - but what makes them special is the price. I bought the basic E531 with i7, 500gb, and 4gb ram for $600. Then added SSD for $80 and memory upgrade for another $40 or $100. To have less than $800 invested in each of these makes them very special. We then got some USB 3.0 portable enclosures and now everyone has a fast machine and a portable drive for additional storage.

If this loud screaming noise does not get resolved - people won't be as happy.
