New BIOS does not work

2021-06-24, 23:01 PM

The new BIOS version 2.04 for the Lenovo ThinkPad E570 does not work.

When I run the BIOS Update Utility in Windows, Windows suffers a BSOD every time the BIOS flash begins. Luckily, the BIOS itself is not corrupted. However, it is impossible to update the BIOS. Rebooting the computer and re-attempting the BIOS flash results in the exact same BSOD.

Meanwhile, the ISO is corrupted. I have tried both Rufus and "ISO to USB", and both say the ISO is incompatible. When I mount the ISO in Windows as a drive, the ISO is empty.

I was able to circumvent the problem by disabling memory integrity in the Windows Security settings. See here

Nevertheless, this still seems like a flaw. At the very least, the Windows BIOS update utility should instruct the user to first disable memory integrity before updating.

Hi

I‘m trying to replicate this issue on my machine. Could you share from which BIOS you updated to V2.04?  could you share your Windows/OS version?  and could you take a picture of BSOD?

Thank you

Davey

Re:New BIOS does not work

Unfortunately, I did not make a record of the previous BIOS version.

And now that my BIOS is fully up-to-date, I cannot update it any further, so I cannot reproduce the problem.

However, I can say this: when using the Windows BIOS update utility with Windows Memory Integrity enabled, I get a BSOD for Tdklid64.sys, exactly consistent with what is written here

To enable or disable Windows Memory Integrity, go to Settings --> Update & Security --> Windows Security --> Device Security --> Core isolation --> Core isolation details --> Memory integrity --> toggle switch on or off.

Note that to enable Memory integrity, virtualization must be enabled in the BIOS.

You will find that if Memory integrity is enabled, then running the Lenovo Windows BIOS update utility will produce a BSOD for Tdklid64.sys just prior to the moment when the BIOS is about to be actually flashed.

Thanks for sharing.

Read me file should offer the steps and loading defaults initially also helps.

Re:New BIOS does not work

Hi

Our internal team already identified the problem and fixed it but solution only take effect from next next version BIOS.

That means it is inevitable to get BSOD again from latest BIOS V2.04 to a newer version BIOS, assuming next BIOS version is V2.05 and next next version is V2.06 ,  Issue will NOT happen again from BIOS V2.05 to V2.06.

As BSOD issue only happens when Memory integrity is enabled, so if you encounter such problem, please disable memory integrity before BIOS updating.

go to Settings --> Update & Security --> Windows Security --> Device Security --> Core isolation --> Core isolation details --> Memory integrity --> disabled it.

Thanks
