Question about noise

2010-03-26, 23:19 PM

Hi!

It's been 2 weeks since I received my Edge (AMD version). I found out that it makes a high pitch noise from the cooler side (left side). It's quite irritating for me, though my wife hardly notices it. I've noticed that the noise level (or pitch) increases if it runs on batteries.

Anyone knows something about this issue or if it can be solved in service?

Thanks!

Vlad

I notice this also, I believe its connected to the graphics chip as the frequency changes when you minimize from a blank white browser window back to the darker desktop wallpaper. I'm sure this also ties into the EMI noise/ interference on the analogue audio.

Hi all,

First post here!

Got my E420 2 days ago and while I was in the office I didn't notice it with the noise around me, but yesterday I took the Thinkpad to bed and I could hear that high-pitched/static noise coming from the left hand side.

I think xe77 is into something connecting this to the graphics as I realized that when the screen blanked out briefly (for UAC pop-ups) the noise disappeared.

Is this happening to everyone or do we have faulty units?

By the way, this is on the new E420 with SandyBridge i3 and with dedeicated ATI 6630 1GB.

Put on something CPU intensive like IntelBurnTest. Does it go away?

We are making progress here...

Tried IntelBurnTest v2.5.1 setting the Stress Level to "High" ans as soon as I start the test the high pitch noise (I'm not sure how to describe it, more like "chirping"") stops as the fan kicks in.
Good tip ColonelONeill, so do you know where the noise is coming from and why?
