Hi apc467,

Your welcome. I was wondering if you've updated the BIOS update I've posted above?

Do post back your results.

Re: E540 power issue

I installed the latest BIOS update yesterday and didn't notice any negative impact so far. That's already positive after the experience of the past three months ...

By the way: why should I re-install "Lenovo Solution for Small Business (LSSB)"? What functions does this program provide for? I had removed it a couple of weeks ago, and didn't miss it to date.

So does it work with the updated bios and removed Lenovo utility? I am planning to buy a Quad-core E440

Can anyone else say whether the BIOS update helped or not? Is everything ok with e540 now. I would like to buy it and don't know what to do. Would you recommend it?

PeterCH is everything working well now?

Thanks for help.

Peter,

I'm not sure that you need to re-install LSSB.

The BIOS is the key update - there is a formal support tip being released for this.

Hello Mark,

Are the problems with the E540 definitly solved with this BIOS-update?

When I buy one, these problems won't occur? Or are they shipped with old BIOS and LSSB?

Thanks!

New firmare did not fix the problem for me.

I have to remove the power cable and hold the power button for about 10 seconds to start it up.

Re: E540 power issue

Just recieved my E540 today. It failed to turn on from the start.

In some attempts the laptop would try to display the lenovo splash screen, but extremely dim and it would soon dissapear again.

I find this hard to believe as it cost me nearly £900.

I contacted technical support and they asked for me to email them my proof of purchase.

I've not yet made up my mind whether I will ask for a refund or a replacement. Tempted by refund.

Edit also - I was going to try the bios update, but even when I reset the bios battery the machine will not turn on. So I'm stuck.

Since I migrated to BIOS 1.61 a week ago, I experienced three situations where my E540 (Windows 8.1) came up after hibernation - but did not turn on the LED backlights of the screen. Thus the machine was working, but the screen remained black. After a second power on, it worked normally again. I got the impression that the error depends on how you power off and on, i.e. with battery or external power supply, or vice versa, but I can't proof or consistently repeat it so far.

The occurrence of this failure is less frequent than before 1.61, but obviously Lenovo has not yet sorted out or corrected the error completely and reliably enough.

Re: E540 power issue

Hi guys & Lenovo community,

i just got today my e540 that i ordered even after reading this thread. It was shipped on 22/03/2014 but i'm in regional area in Australia so it took a while.

I'll give some information for who is out there still wondering if buying this laptop is a good idea.

Luckily my computer started with no problems at all and first thing I uninstalled Lenovo Small Business Solutions software. The BIOS version was 1.58 so I've updated it straight away to 1.61 and the flash was successful.

I've had no problem so far but obviously i've being playing with it just for 1 hour now.

If i'll have any problems i'll be sure to report it here asap.

Regarding the hardware itself i must say i'm pleased with the overall quality always considering the price. Too bad there was no option for an IPS monitor, i would have totally opted for that over the TN i'm looking at.

Good luck to everyone who is going to order :)
