Re: New bios for E530

Very nice - with 2.54 bios (flashed with bootable CD without problems) pulsing is so far gone and fan speeds are reasonable. Thanks Lenovo... after year or so :D

What does "reasonable" mean? Lenovo-reasonable or reasonable in general? For me, Lenovo is a synonym for silent (outside of the Ultrabook-segment), so the bar is high.

Re: New bios for E530

Ok I have been testing it since  monday I think and so far I can tell about fan behaviour:

a) not pulsing anymore

2) fan speed is overall higher and fan never stops even when system is iddle and it is blowing only cool air out of ntb.

3) work with ntb in very silent environments is comfortable

4) since I have mSATA SSD for OS and secondary HDD for data I can tell, that fan while iddle is making just a little more noise than spinning HDD.

I am thinking about deploying small microcontroller to read fan control signal, lowering it by xx% and send modified signal to fan. Can inform you later about my project success.

I upgraded the BIOS also and the FAN speed now if higher tan before.

I agree with Kevar that the noise of the HDD is higher tan the FAN, it seems that now the fan is always ON and maybe is the solution to avoid the pulsing.

Regards.

fan never stops even when system is iddle

When it happens, I run AIDA64 and go to Computer - Sensors. When AIDA64 read them, the fan goes slow down to min.

You can use any programm that can read fan speed.

that doesnt work for me but i think we are talking about different fan speeds. Min speed is what I mean by saying fan never stops even when system is iddle. What you are talking about is probably slowing fan down from high speed to min speed. For this nice trick is to change windows power plan to another one and back. Easier than reading sensors :)

So, can people confirm that the fan issue has be fixed? Is it now possible to use the computer in a silent environment? Currently, heavy use has been pretty much impossible due to the extremely loud fan, unless you set CPU usage to 99%. You then have a pretty silent and stable fan.

1) Fan is never stopped.

2) Fan even in the lowwest speed is noisy.

1 + 2 = Lenovo E430/E530 is noisy all the time.

Re: New bios for E530

Hello,

I don't know why, but the fan speed on my E430 is now constantly higher, than it should be. This is now an ongoing issue for about a month or so.

I clean my laptop every 3 months with compressed air so there are no dust issues. I have the latest BIOS installed for E430.

Temperatures are as follows:

CPU: 38 C min and 49 C max

HDD: 40 C min and 40 C max

Intel PCH: 52 C min and 54 C max

DIMM: 37 C min and 38 C max

The fan speed is normal for the first 2 minutes after booting up and using my computer (Word, Excel, Firefox, graphic editing program etc., but I don't do any intensive work - CPU, HDD and Memory average loads are very low). After that, it speeds up and never goes back to lower speed anymore. If I reboot the computer, again, it's all right for the first two minutes.

I have Win 8 Enterprise 64 bit and all the latest updates installed. However, the only Lenovo drivers that I use are "key integration" and "HDD air bag". I've reinstalled my laptop a few days ago, but it was the same with ALL available Lenovo drivers installed (according to Lenovo System Update software) before that.

What can be done? All HW tests are good. Please help.

Update: I've measured the fan noise level with an uncalibrated app on my phone, so the dB aren't "exact". At startup, the fan noise level is 65 dB (for two minutes or so) and then it goes up to 75 dB. So the fan definitely starts blowing faster.

Kind regards,

Henrik

Re: E430: Idle (default) fan speed sound became louder than it was before

2013-11-17, 14:02 PM

Update 2: The fan behaves the same on Ubuntu Linux 13.10 (Live USB). I've booted the computer, surfed the web for a minute or two, and the fan started blowing much faster. As far as I can tell, the temperatures (CPU, HDD) are normal, nothing is above average.

I think this could be a BIOS issue.

I've also made a video - please check it out here: http://youtu.be/HzwRYII7q2g

It's clearly audible when the fan starts blowing faster.

Thanks.
