Replace WiFi card in E485

2018-09-01, 23:34 PM

I have an E485 with Qualcomm QCA9377 WiFi card. The sensitivity of this card is horrible, also the card has a known problem in the form of loosing wifi connections. Am I able to put an intel card like the AC3165 from E480 in the E485 or is it whitelist-protected and only the Qualcomm would work? Has someone tested this?

I replaced the qualcomm card in my e585 with a intel wireless ac 9260. After driver install it worked without any problems.

Thank you. I ordered the AC9260 now. The QCA9377 is such trash that i would send it back to Qualcomm headquarters... They should think about what trash they are producing.

can you give a reply if this actually works on the E485? I read somewhere that the wifi modules are whitelisted in the BIOS on lenovo hardware.

Any issues with upload speed? Someone in Singapore ordered a 9260 but was getting only 30mbps upload thereafter. Was wondering if it's a faulty adapter.

To anyone else reading this thread. This is a MUST HAVE upgrade. It is a relatively simple procedure:

* Buy the new wifi card. Google 'intel wireless ac 9260' they range from roughly $18 - $30 in the USA.

* Google 'intel wireless ac 9260 drivers' and have them ready (yeah I forgot this step, and had to plug the ethernet cable in.. sigh)

* YouTube how to open up your laptop. No idea if it invalidates the warranty or not.

* YouTube how to install it, however it is not that difficult.

* Boot the system back up and install the drivers

* Marvel at how much faster your WiFi is, I couldn't believe it. Both download and upload are fine. It it so much better.

LIFE IMPROVED

Qualcomm QCA9377 doesn't connect to my workplace access point, which is WPA2 Enterprise PEAP. I can connect flawlessly with my phone and my old laptop (on Windows and Linux)

I tried windows 10 and Linux and it doesn't work at all. It keeps asking me to enter the wifi password over and over again on Linux and giving me the wrong certificate error message on Windows 10. It's a shame.

I've just bought the adapter intel Wireless AC 9260 which is supposed to work with this Wifi AP. I don't need it to be so fast, I just need it to work and QCA9377 doesn't.

Please, Lenovo, don't put QCA9377 on your laptops any more. It is not worth it.
