ThinkPad problem; lags, poor performance

Having problems with my E530C thinkpad.  When starting in normal mode the computers responds poorly for several minutes (cursor not responsive - starts to move then freezes, then moves too far), keypad lags the same, and sounds seem to freeze / skip / buzz like a computer voice in the movies that freezes.  


It stops after 15 minutes or so and then runs fine for a while but then does the same thing some time later.  Impossible to do any work when it is happening.  


Updated to Windows 10 several months and this wasn't happening at first.  


Seems to run ok with safe mode with networking.  Cannot open Edge browser though in safe mode and that makes me wonder if the problem might be the Edge browser.  


Also tried several different anti virus/malware programs (defender, avg, malwarebytes) both when already running and also at startup before loading other programs.  AVG put a couple things in quarantine but the problems still happened.  I also did a reinstall of windows 10 by way of the windows 10 reset program through the cortana search. But it started doing the same thing but not as soon as starting.. maybe 10-15 minutes after using the computer this time.  


also ran  System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) and it found no errors.


I did play around with task manager to see what was using highest percentages of disk, network, cpu, and memory.  System interrupts keeps popping up and I went to details and ended the svchost.exe that was using the most memory (35,000K ).  Many svchosts were listed but all the others were no more than 7,000K.  This seemed to improve things for a while.  


Ideas of what to do next???
