Thinkpad E530 i3-3120m w/ 4GB RAM. Need CPU & RAM Upgrade Help! PLEASE!

2020-03-21, 8:18 AM

Just bought this Thinkpad E530 from a pal.

It came with the i3-3120m and 4GB of RAM.

I am replacing the SATA DVD Drive with a 2nd HDD/SSD Caddy and installing a 2.5" to M.2 adapter in the caddy for a blazing fast 2nd storage medium.

I want to replace the CPU with an i7-3610QM but want to make sure its compatible with this model and that its a quick swap job.

Will i need an upgraded CPU cooler for the i7 vs the i3 and if so where would i buy one.

Also, i'm seeing some reports of 8GB not being recognized without the i3-2350M and 16GB only being recognized by the i7-3610QM but i cant confirm this 100%.

Id like to know what RAM is compatible with this system. Someone shared a link for a Crucial 16GB kit. It was DDR3L-1600 PC3-12800. Any other types of RAM compatible?

Id like to know what CPU's are compatible with this system as well. Is the i7-3610QM the highest i can go? Is it my best option?

Someone please lend some guidance. I appreciate it
