Re: Solved all touchpad problems by installing Synaptics reference driver

2010-12-28, 2:30 AM

Here is a Fix:

The issue is not the thinkpad touchpad, it is the terrible drivers synaptics puts out.  Download the following program to initiate a much smoother touchpad experience.  Once installed go into your synaptics touchpad management and turn off the windows controls (so that the program controls are not trumped).  Set to SMART scroll in the program.  Have fun.

Re: Solved all touchpad problems by installing Synaptics reference driver

Count me in as another user experiencing the same touchpad problems. Very disappointed that I had to uninstall the manufacturers drivers from a 2 month old laptop and replace with generic ones. I believe the Synaptic version was 15.1.22.2

Scrolling is smoother. Pinch zooming is a bit better.

I think its a problem with the two finger zoom driver. If i disable all the features the touchpad did not freeze anymore.

In my edge11 it is like this.

if i come perhaps with two finger zoom in a certain area the touchpad completly freezes and i think i seems to pressing a click

the touchpoint is working but the mousebuttons are not working correclty.

after disabling all the freatures in the driver the touchpad is working without freeze now

I just received a new Intel version EDGE 11 a week ago and did notice the issue with touchpad freezing from time to time. so far I haven't even tried scrolling or zooming with the touchpad and it froze just from normally moving the cursor on the screen.
What exactly should I disable to eliminate this problem ?

Re: Solved all touchpad problems by installing Synaptics reference driver

Well I guess you guys are luckier than me.

I just recieved my new Edge 13 (amd version) and installed win 7 on it. Everything seemed to work fine at first but then I started to download some software from the lenovo homepage, e.g. the update software which installed loads of patches and even a bios update furthermore Win 7 also did update itself. So in the end I had a fully updated system, the only problem was my touchpad and the trackpoint fully stopped working.

I can't which patch/update exactly caused the problem as I was using an usb mouse while installing all that stuff but I guess it might be that new bios.

So I tried to install some new TP driver like the synaptics one and some others mentioned in this thread but I didn't manage to make it work again. So I tried to reinstall Win 7 but this time even the standard win drivers could make it work again so I also tried to reset the bios but nothing helped, TP/Trackpoint/buttons seemed to be somehow broken.

So in the end I had to send it to customer service, they said they'd try to repair it but don't know how long it would take, hopefully it'll be back next week but who knows. In the end I'm kinda disappointed about lenovo while reading all those problems ppl have with ther touchpads :(

Re: Solved all touchpad problems by installing Synaptics reference driver

I've had an Edge 14 that I've had for about 4 months and I am having touch pad issues too.  I will be using it and all of a sudden the cursor go somewhere random on the screen, most often the upper right corner.  This is getting very annoying.

Any help would be appreciated.

Has anyone had any issues with a 'dwell click'?  i.e. if you leave the cursor hovering over an icon after a few seconds there is an automatic left click made without pressing the trackpad button.

I have disabled the feature in software but it still happens.  It's fine if I plug in a usb mouse.

Service Center just sent back my edge 13, they assembled a completly new system board and finally my TP is at least working again, but I have to admit it doesn't run really smooth, feels like the mouse pointer gets stuck sometimes and I have to reposition my finger on the TP. At least the rackpoint runs without any problems so far.

Luckily I also haven't had any sound issues so far, so I think I'll try it out a bit more. I just noticed the combi mic in/out jack which kinda confused me cause I cannot use my old headphone anymore,  I don't get it why you would combine the mic in and audio out jack... well I've read that apple and blackberry are using those kind of jacks as well, I guess lenovo thought better jump on that train as fast as possible ;)

I had experienced random touchpad freezing with my new Edge 11 and was able to resolve it by turning off all 2 finger options in the touchpad control panel.
