Re: Solved all touchpad problems by installing Synaptics reference driver

2011-01-20, 18:07 PM

thx Jamez for the hint, it actually runs much smoother now :)

But two finger scrolling with the touchpad still seems to be tricky, thank god I can also use the trackpoint for scrolling.

Well well in the end I'm feeling a bit relieved, but it could've been easier...

Re: Touchpad

I have the same issue with my Edge 14 ( Intel WIn 7 x64).  I just received it today and noticed that the touchpad is quite unreliable.  Sometimes mid stroke, the cursor just stops.  One finger and two finger scrolling are hit and miss.  I called support, but they simply asked that I check MS updates.  That didn't do it.  After reading all of these posts, it appears as if something larger is going on.  Either way, I'm considering returning it.  I don't want to, but this issue ruins the browsing experience for me.  Lenovo brags about legendary engineering...I wish they could fix this issue...

I experienced the same issue. Solution:

Get rid of the old synaptics driver.

Install this one: http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers

Almost everything works right away, maybe do some tweaking.

In the end you got the same functionality and a smoother experience (two finger scrolling is much better).

So far, no crashes.

Solved Flaky Scrolling

2011-02-19, 0:17 AM

I don't know if this helps or not, but the following link helped to "solve" my above issue where the 1 and 2 finger scrolling was intermittent. I know that this is a different machine altogether, but  after disabling the suggested filters, the scrolling is much better.

So, I installed a newer Synaptics driver from http://www.synaptics.com/support/drivers - because I had a freezing trackpad which made my whole keyboard go kablooey after being confused by Google Maps (don't ask).

This made almost everything fine, until I found that the left 'mouse button' of the trackpoint (not trackpad) kept issuing double- instead of single-clicks.

This infuriated me so much that I've gone to a standard PS/2 mouse driver! And everything is much groovier - I barey use the trackpad anyway so I'm not missing pinch-to- or two-finger-scrolling.

For those who DO find their touchpad useful and are still having issues - I posted in a previous comment a link to a "two finger scroll" program that brilliantly solves two finger scrolling issues.  I still have multitouch issues in windows - however - in Ubuntu most issues are obsolete. I have been using Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10 on my thinkpad edge 14 and Ubuntu runs much smoother than windows and boots up and logs in about 10-15 seconds faster.  Most multitouch features now work with the new drivers however I haven't tested all of them.   So if you really do like the touchpad feature and are still having issues try that two finger program or test out ubuntu on a test cd (no install required).

Re: Touchpad

Hi I just saw this thread after making a completely new thread about my trackpad issue :smileysad:  Anyways I have the thinkpad edge with intel i3 2.4 ghz processor running 64 bit windows. Can anyone reccomend how to correct my trackpad issues?  Is there a driver or something I need to install?  And can you link me to it?  I am not very tech savvy so any insight would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance
