Re: Touchpad Problem Could Be Software / Driver Related

2011-06-20, 22:09 PM

Reporting from Denmark, (a bit late, as i had my two 13" EDGE laying around over half a year, before getting around to opening the boxes) Model: AMD 1.3Ghz / 4GB / 320 GB / 64bit W7 (Model 0196-5MG)..

Nevertheless, I've got valuable information, as I bought two identical machines, and ONE had the touch poad issue, one did NOT!

NO tweaking / adjusting / updating has been done to the one working perfectly.. so "Software".. I don't think so !

I am calling service for the sick one ! Enough time spent already, reading these 17 pages of frustration !

Good luck guys ;-)

I am also having this issue with the touchpad on my intel core i7 e220s.

Multitouch gestures such as scrolling are also extremely unreliable and spazzy.

hello, i'm also having trouble with the touchpad on my thinkpad edge, but after looking through these replies i ended up disabling the filtering options in the control panel and now scrolling is ACTUALLY WORKING!

BUT, it is still very un-reliable due to low sensitivity (and in some applications non-responsive actually, also on the dropdowns in google chrome!) so i end up either scrolling too little or too much, so IT'S STILL CRAPPY!

i'm sorry to say this, but i did not expect it from a THINKPAD!

and i think it's definitely because of the driver!

It seems that other systems besides the Edge series are having issues with the touchpad. Is there one combined thread that we can see what everyone has tried, what works, and what does not work?

Nope - no answer from Lenovo tech support or Lenovo sales. They should cross-reference the exact models and components and drivers installed on the faulty machine - see if there is a correlation - ie. one batch of bad touchpads, or a specific driver or bad RAM (that is not "unloading"...) and go from there.

I have been contacting the Lenovo tech support - keep getting different answers - possibly driver problem, possibly hardware problem - but in the end all said send the machine in to be repaired - 2 to 3 week turn-around with no gaurantee of it being done in that time frame.

I contacted the Lenovo sales rep who sold the machine to me to see if he could help out and/or find an answer to the problem - he has not replied to my emails, has not returned my phone calls to him and is not answering his direct line.

I am VERY concerned with the lack of support. There are TWO major issues - the trackpad malfunctioning and the "e" "d" and "c" keys malfunctioning. Multiple people having the same problem means there is a problem.

Seriously - I am hoping it is a driver problem. I would like to keep the Edge that I purchased, but the way things are going with the lack of response it is not looking good.

Keep us posted. Seems like a drive issue to me, so hopefully a update will be available soon. Might need to work with a external mouse for a bit or try to get used to the touchpoint.

The sales rep replied:

"This is a technical support issue. If they cannot resolve it and decide the machine needs to be replaced we can rebook a new order. I do not see anything on our web with regards. to a trackpad issue. "

I guess he missed this thread.

Saw that someone modified the trackpad settings and had some luck with that - I'll try that and see how it goes.

Still wondering what they are doing with the "e" "d" and "c" key malfunctioning problem.

It is definitely a hardware issue, at least on the E420.

Got my touchpad replaced under warranty last week and all the problems are gone.

It's still not as good a touchpad as on the MBP (synaptics drivers are to blame here) but at least it works as intended and doesn't freeze or go crazy on me.

So, to everyone having rpoblems with theirs, send it back to Lenovo and get it replaced.

Mine took a week (including postage) so I think it's worth it.

Re: Touchpad Problem Could Be Software / Driver Related

so I have experienced all of the problems and was considering updating my drivers. So I did on my T43d and now cant use the darned thing at all. So that's when I started reading all of this stuff in the forums. After doing all the adjustments in the ultranav settings (reducing palm check, unchecking the other three), I did one more thing. I went into the task manager and changed the priority of the syntpxxx stuff that would change. I get he warning that this might create instability but hey, a usable touch pad is more important. And now my touchpad ALMOST works as well as the one on my MacBook Pro. But considering that this is an IBM clone--Oh thats right- this is IBM now so the bar should be higher. I for one am thinking of returning this laptop because after 2 years of construction dust the only problem with the MBP is that the optical drive doesn't work anymore. Good luck folks. Oh T420 i7 Sandy SSD HD screen 8Gig blah blah blah
