i actually installed the latest drivers from synaptics website and WOW, what do you know?! everything works like a charm now. Even scrolling in some not-so-scrolling-friendly applications where my old laptop didn't work.

it's just AMAZING how bad the lenovo drivers are...

You went direct to Synap for your E420s?

What drivers? Can you provide a link?

Last night while visiting the same web sites I always visit, the touchpad completely stopped recognizing taps on the pad. Previously the problem occured while not in safe mode - this occured while in safe mode. When I closed the browser windows - there was a Skype window open that wanted to install an update. I installed the update - Rebooted - worked for a while, then stopped completely. Rebooted again - same result - in safe mode touchpad stopped recognizing the clicks on the pad (the left button did work as a click.)

Downloaded the new Synaptic driver - seems to working OK for now.

.... I was hesitant to download the new driver as other people on other Lenovo forums talked about the new driver fixing some problems but created new problems. Have not encountered any problems - but only about 30 minutes of actual use with new driver so far.

Driver ver 15.3.8 just as bad as previous version I had installed (15.2.x)

Seems that touchpad operation gets worse when some system type app is open - for example if I have control panel open the touchpad response gets worse (won't recognize clicks, won't respond to movements, will suddenly click with me actually clicking....)

Re: Touchpad Problem Could Be Software / Driver Related

Last night the top right ultranav button stopped working after I changed an ultranav setting (increaased the amount of pressure needed for response) Lenovo tech said to uninstall drivers, and re-install driver for which he gave me the link to driver code for the 15.3.6 - however told me it was 15.3.8. Whatever, I wasn't going to waste my time trying to get him to agree that a "6" is a "6". I had 15.3.8 installed, and that failed so might as well try the 15.3.6 - which is what I had been using. So I tried the driver he recommended - 15.3.6 - and that did not correct the problem. Uninstalled 15.3.6 and used the native Windows driver which "works" but does not have the advanced functionality of the ultranav.

I REALLY am trying to work with this and not return the computer - but I have spent more time trying to get the computer to work than actually using it.

So right now the touchpad "works" using the Windows driver.

Touchpad - Just Use the Windows Native Driver

2011-07-19, 16:29 PM

A few days now after uninstalling the Ultranav drivers and using the Windows native drivers for the touchpad - works fine - except of course that you don't get to use any of the features of the ultranav (two finger zoom, etc..) basically you can scroll and click.

Well now the Windows native driver for the touchpad seems to be malfunctioning. While typing emails or comments on forums or Facebook posts - the cursor will suddenly either (1) move to a random spot within the message, or (2) suddenly delete a part of the message.

So I give in. You're right Lenovo tech support. You sold me a machine that had broken hardware to begin with.

I found this is another thread, it works awesome.  2 finger scrolling works wonderful now and I can still pinch and zoom.

ColonelONeill:

For two finger scrolling, go into UltraNav and disable the Smart Check filtering settings. If this still doesn't cut it, disable two finger scrolling for UltraNav and use the TwoFingerScroll utillity found here:
