Updates EVERY day ? WHY? Lenovo solutions for small business powered by Intel

2013-05-01, 13:35 PM

I am getting tired of getting a pop up EVERY day when I turn on my computer saying a new update is available for Lenovo solutions for small business powered by intel small business advantage.  It never gives any more details.  I have downloaded and installed but am tired of doing it.   Is it necessary?  if not, how do I stop it?

I have a E530c running windows 7 pro

I have the same harmless, but annoying problem. The download works, but the installation fails. But checking the box that says "Don't remind me about this update" doesn't work, and every time I boot my machine, I'm greeted with that same nagging update dialog. Can someone suggest how to get rid of it, or better yet, get this update to Lenovo Solutions for Small Business to actually work?! Thanks.

After experiencing a similar problem I did a little research I decided that this system

adds no value at all (and seems have some well-known security issues).  I decided to remove

it completely (it can be easily downloaded and reinstalled if necessary).  After I did this I noticed that

I had several additional hundreds of MB of ram available.

All,

We had "message center plus" in the past that would provide messages about updates, and some promotional materials and we got some feedback on that.  I'm not familiar with solutions for small business application - could one of you post the process name or a screen shot of it?   I'd like to look into this.

So far as I know, most of our updates for the system are available through TVSU and that is how I would recommend getting them.  Launch TVSU when you want to check for driver / bios updates.

The LSC or Lenovo Solution Center is our diagnostic application and it checks system health and whether you have AV, when you did last backup, and whether everything is up to date based on the TVSU update catalog.   You aren't talking about this are you?

Appreciate any extra info you can share so we can check into this.

Mark

The Lenovo Solutions for Small Business is apparently Intel software that came bundled with my E530. The machine is only about 90 to 100 days old, and I started getting this upgrade notice at boot practically from day 1. It boots with a message that says "A new update is available" and two buttons: Do not download and Download. When I choose Download, it appears to successfully download and gives me the option to Install, then the install fails with little or no info on the problem.  (If I just launch the LSSB app then choose to update from it's menu, I get the same dialog with the same choices, but the download fails, with the message, "The download process failed with this error: 20484 (Request timeout)". Both dialogs have a check box labeled, "Do not remind me about this update" which I've tried selecting, but I still get the annoying notice that there's an update available every time I boot. That's about all I can tell you. Thanks for asking.

Ian,

No problems with your system popped up when you removed it?  How did you remove it?

Nomad,

No problems from uninstalling.  I used Uninstall program in the control panel.  There are two components,

the main program (which I uninstalled first) and an extension.  (I made a snapshot with System Restore first just in case).  I'm on Windows 7.  The problem you are experiencing with the repeated updates is a known one

(just search the forums).  I had the same problem.

My impression of this tool is that it is massive Intel bloatware, with little real added value.  If you use the Process

Explorer tool from Microsoft to look at all the processes associated with it, you won't believe the resource

consumption.  Once I removed it I had at least a couple of hundred MB of additional ram available,

which was helpful as I run virtual machines on top of Windows.

In any case (as you can verify) it's easy to download and reinstall it from the Lenovo site should you decide

you need it.  But I bet you won't.
