WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR BSoD on E580 notebook...

2019-05-22, 15:27 PM

Hi Lenovo Community,

Having an unusual problem with an E580 laptop (model no. 20KS003SUS). It was brought into us under warranty because the laptop would shut off randomly and not pass a signal through HDMI to an external monitor. I reproduced it once when I left it run all night after all hardware tests passed using Lenovo Vantage. I did a search on these same forums and someone had the same problem and suggested a system board replacement. So I replaced the system board, ran hardware tests again and passed, left it run all night and got a blue screen, WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR, dump file was at 0%. I ran bootable diagnostics and it passed. I then ran a BIOS update and Management firmware update. Then I let it run again overnight and it blue screened again with the same problem. So, not really sure what the issue is. By the looks of it, Microsoft suggests that this error is a physical hardware problem, but what piece of hardware is it if the Lenovo diagnostics are reporting no problems with any of the hardware? I guess it's possible it might be the memory or the replacement system board is defective.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Thanks in advance! BTW, we are a Lenovo certified service depot.

Hi! Could you try the steps below.

Step 1: Run CHKDSK and send to us the result
2. Reset Your BIOS/UEFI Settings
3. Check Your RAM Using MemTest86 and send the result
4. Reset System Overclocking if you performed an overclocking on the laptop previously
5. If all fails, Reset Windows 10. Before proceeding, kindly backup your files. Update us how it goes.

1.) Chkdsk found no problems.
2.) BIOS has been reset to default settings at least twice.
3.) RAM tested ok in Lenovo diagnostics.
4.) Overclocking cannot be set in BIOS, so this is not possible.
5.) I haven't reset Windows 10 yet.

We have replaced the RAM and SSD in the laptop and it is still doing the same thing.

Hi!

Thanks for posting back,

We've found a discussion similar to this case, and it shows that this issue can be resolved resolved by a motherboard / SSD replacement. You can check the thread below,

https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/WHEA-uncorrectable-error-P52/m-p/4379372#M79433

A reset can still be done to further isolate the problem. You can perform a reset by going to Settings>Update and Security>Recovery, or click on Start Menu>Power>Hold the shift key and click Restart>Advanced Options>Troubleshoot>Reset this PC. If it's still the same, repair will be our next action. You can bring it to the nearest service center listed in the link below,

Regards,

Hi JayBCTTech,

i meet the same issue but with Lenovo E590. did you resolve it? how?

i tried install several windows 10 version (1706, 1803, 1909, 2004), UEFI BIOS (1.18, 1.25, 1.29). i use Lenovo System Update to download all driver from lenovo, but it still show BSOD "whea_uncorrectable_error" (No other software, no crack, no game, just using chrome browser, windows file browser)

i run "Lenovo Diagnostics UEFI" tool to detect which part is broken, but everything is fine, i dont know why my laptop (E580) run BOSD continuously :(,

I ended up shipping the laptop back to Lenovo and they replaced the system board and SSD.
