I reinstalled the entire software suite as well as reinstalled Windows back to factory defaults.
This computer never ceases to dissatisfy me.
This was supposed to be a replacement of a poorly running ThinkPad, perhaps by coincidence or bad luck.
Instead I am slowly beginning to think that the Edge really is a bad consumer laptop and has no merits other than piggybacking the brand name.
I have emailed Lenovo the following but I feel I must exhaust all outlets as to ensure my dilemma is acknowledged and henceforth resolved:
The replacement ThinkPad Edge 14 variant has a number of software issues which are not resolved by system restore or OS re installation. I have fairly sensitive eyes, to light adjustments at least. There is a function on this machine which causes the display to either dim or illuminate depending on processor demand as to conserve power. Now this occurs in all power plan settings. I have accessed the software control panel for this function named "Dynamic Brightness." The issue here is that when I offset all the items, they still occur, only marginally less infrequent. Because of these quite often contrast changes I get headaches and thus must resign use.
Next the software does not function as it should. On screen displays sometimes hover and never fade, other times they will not load. This is regardless of system usage or plug in settings.
Lastly, and perhaps the most irksome of these affairs is that upon resuming sleep, the laptop may not power back the LED display. The laptop itself will be awake, and the OS fully functioning (as discovered with an external monitor) the display refuses to turn on. The only cure is to force shut down, so barring the availability of external displays, must force quit anything you are working on. This is a great hindrance because I use my laptop at multiple intervals throughout the day and during class. I can't keep shutting down and restarting between classes or every time I have to close the display for an overhead projector.
I find the culmination of these problems, withstanding it's replacement, to be a monotonous state of things. How many times will I have to get my products fixed? How much before enough is enough? Had I been aware of the cheap imitation this machine was I would have gone for something like a ThinkPad X or T400s. I am very displeased as a customer about all of this and quite exasperated.
