Re: 0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

 Hello,

I am currently working on a ThinkPad Edge 15 0302-2BU for a client of mine.

The system is able to POST and I can enter the BIOS but the UUID is all zeros and the Machine Type Model, System-unit serial number, and System board serial number are all blank.

I went to the support page for this model and downloaded the ISO file with bootable BIOS update utility for BIOS ver. 2.20 (82ET80WW) I updated the BIOS in case there were any issues with the current BIOS release. Rebooted then went to update the model number off the bootable utility. I entered the model number, Updated, and Rebooted again. Still having the same issue. The model number didn’t record after I punched it in.

I am still able to POST and get into the BIOS configuration.

The system will not load an OS or boot off a CD into something like Windows PE.

I'm not sure if Windows not being able to load is due to the BIOS or not but I'm inclined to think so since I have trouble booting off CD.

Regardless, is there anything I can do to fix this?

I sold this unit to my client from our store here in Cleveland and the unit is about 5 months out-of-warranty.

I would hate to have to sell this guy a Motherboard after roughly a year and a half.

Thanks, any help is appreciated.

If I don't get a reply I will most likely be calling Lenovo Directly.

Re: 0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

I'm going to accept that as the solution.

I don't see any other way to assign those numbers without some kind of software from Lenovo or just replace the Motherboard.

Thanks for your help!

0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

Re: 0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

Hi and welcome to the forum!

BIOS information is likely empty because perhaps the motherboard was replaced and data wasn't fed into it using lenovo's maintenance disk. Only lenovo support centers, certified techs etc. have access to this disk, you can try taking it to any authorized Lenovo service centre and request them to feed the info. for your client: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-service/service-provider/findServiceProvider.page?

Hope this helps.

Re: 0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

Yea, our store here was once a lenovo service center (not too long ago)

Although I don't believe I have access to that software any more.

There is a service center not far from here that I send all the people who com into my store to who think we're still an authorized repair center (mainly because we're still listed on the support website, one year later...)

Sorry, tangent.

Anyway, I'm curious if simply inserting the Serial Number will fix this issue. I thought that the UUID was assigned specific to every motherboard created. I doubt there is software Lenovo makes availalbe to field techs for assigning Universally Unique Identifier's to Motherboards...

Sorry Cory, I'm not sure how they do it, but the disk is capable of setting both UUID and Serial number in the BIOS. I've seen people getting this issue resolved by contacting lenovo service.

Re: 0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

I'VE NOTICED THAT THE UUID IS ON THE PACKAGE THE ITEM IS SHIPPED IN.  WE RECORD THE LABLES OF ALL LENOVOPRPODUCTS WE SELL TO WE CAN REPORT THE SALES LATER.   THAT SAID MAYBE YOUR CUSTOMER STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL BOX TO PULL THE ID OFF OF.

Re: 0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

Try downloading this

https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/thinkcentre_bios/9hjy58usa.exe

Extract it then run amidewin from a cmd line with admin privileges.  You'll need to read the README first to determine which parameters to use.  I was able to update the product number and serial number this way.

Re: 0302-2BU Missing BIOS UUID and Serial Numbers

I am having this issue as well. The problem is I have no idea why my laptop is not registering the UUID,SN, or Product name in the BIOS. I have a Lenovo ideapad Y700-14ISK, would this tool work for me as well to fix the issue? Much thanks in advance.

I don't know but the correct BIOS update would be this one
