Advise on a SSD and NVME for Lenovo ThinkPad E480 with i5 8 Gen and 8GB Ram

Hello Guys,

I just got an almost new Lenovo ThinkPad E480 from a work colleague but he remove the SSD and NVME.

It only have a 8GB Ram Memory Card in one Slot.

I usually work with a lot of PDF Catalogs that contain color photos and also Excel Order Forms that also contain color photos.

In many cases, I have to keep open several PDF and Excel Catalogs to work with them at the same time...........

I am looking for something fast that dont takes time to load photos, etc..... Since I work with customers and I dont want delays with them

Can you I advise me what SSD and NVME to get?  Maybe you can give me several options without cost me a arm, leg and kidney Smiley Very Happy

I was thinking in getting:

Crucial MX500 500GB 3D NAND SATA 2.5" 7mm (with 9.5mm adapter) Internal SSD ($57.oo)

Crucial P1 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD  ($67.oo)

Crucial says they are 100% Compatible Lenovo ThinkPad E480

Thx for your time and help

Isaac

Hi @Turbo_Boss!

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums.

Based on the product specification of ThinkPad E480, some variation of this model is compatible with M.2 SSD / PCIe NVMe.

Hence, P1 500GB 3D NAND NVMe PCIe M.2 SSD is more faster than SATA SSD since NVMe is an open standard developed to allow modern SSDs to operate at the read/write speeds their flash memory is capable.

Regards,

I would recommend getting a Samsung 970 Evo Plus. Never had any problems with retail Samsung SSD drives from the Evo series, having installed them in hundreds of machines. Had some issues with most other brands, including Crucial.

Hey ThinkpadIL

Do you know if my Thinkpad e480 will work with a: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB Internal PCI Express 3.0 x 4 NVMe,

M.2 Solid State Drive - (MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) ??

Please keep in mind that I dont have a Hard Disk or a SATA SSD, So I am thinking on using this 970 EVO Plus 1TB as my only SSD.  I will going to intall Window 10 + Ofice and all the other drivers.

Thx for your time and help
