Another New ThinkPad E531 Battery Problem

My brand new ThinkPad E531 with Windows 7 from minute one told me the battery was not supported.  (a Lenovo 75+)  I played with it taking it out and replacing it a few times then it charged up.  Ever since then it's "plugged in and not charging"  I've read another post and tried the ACPI.  It didn't help.  It's already running Settings Dependency and I've re-installed the OS twice.   I'm tied to the wall socket as the battery goes down but not up.

Anyone with some ideas?

PS I tried to get into the 1 800 number and was disconnect twice in under 30 seconds after being asked which machine I needed help with.  Local service centers don't carry the batteries for E531's.

Re: Another New ThinkPad E531 Battery Problem

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing battery issues in your Lenovo ThinkPad E531.

I would suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps.

  1. Shutdown, unplug AC and remove battery. Press and hold power button for several seconds. Then re-install battery and AC and restart and see.
  2. Download latest Power Manager and Power Management driver.
  3. Uninstall Power Manager and Power Management driver that is already installed.
  4. Reboot the laptop
  5. Install Power Manager and Power Management driver
  6. Reboot laptop again and see if helps.

Go to Power manager -> Battery tab in advanced view -> Battery maintenance -> Select always fully charge ->Ok and restart the system.

Ensure that the system is plugged-in and that battery firmware is up-to-date.  Check the Lenovo support site for any battery firmware updates for your particular model.  Perform battery gauge reset.  This will allow the battery to relearn available capacity. Update BIOS to the latest level.

Please post back with the results!

Best regards,

Mithun.

Re: Another New ThinkPad E531 Battery Problem

Thanks for the assist.  This reset is going to take time to cycle the battery especially since it's a 75+ but it did charge before it started to discharge.   So far so good. :-)  I'll let you know when it's finished.

Re: Another New ThinkPad E531 Battery Problem

Hi,

Battery gauge reset is a time consuming process. It takes approximately 3+ hours for the entire process to complete. Keep the system idle and make sure you disable sleep/hibernate and set your machines to 'do nothing'. Once it’s done, let me know the happenings.

Regards,

Mithun.

Same issue here just got the laptop today. Fresh install of 8. I posted a new topic as I assumed this was an old one while frantically google'ing for others with the same issues.

I get the Bios message saying its not genuine tried uninstalling and installing every **bleep** software/driver related to the power management pulled and resinstalled the battery numerous times.

Updated bios idk im lost

Re: Another New ThinkPad E531 Battery Problem

so draining it complety in power managment "windows" set critical battery level to 1% and action to sleep. It drained itself to 0% and ran still for about 5 min. I was downloading torrents and streaming youtube to put a strain on the cpu. system crashed !! thats what i wanted it to do instead of sleep or shut itself off.

I then removed battery pressed power button for 30 seconds insterted battery and presto its charging and no genuine battery message

Re: Another New ThinkPad E531 Battery Problem

At idel ti took more than 6 hours to drain so when I got home it was fully recharged.  I unplugged it to let it drain the battery some then at 94% I plugged the power in and it's charging up.

Thanks that fixed the problem
