BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) for ThinkPad E530 fails to update ECP

Applied BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) and found that the ECP remained at the previous version H0HT99WW (2.59)

Attempted to apply update a second time and installation terminated with message that update not need.

Attemped manual update with "WINUPTP -s" which failed; log indicates failure due to rollback prevention.

After disabling rollback prevention, manual update succeeds but with same result.

UEFI BIOS: H0ETA0WW (2.60)

Embedded Controller Version: H0HT99WW (2.59)

Winuptp.log:

Any suggestions on how to get ECP to update to correct version, H0HTA0WW (2.60)?

Would it be better to rollback to BIOS Update 2.59? Note that 2.60 has important security fixes.

Re: BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) for ThinkPad E530 fails to update ECP

Hi robear2!

Welcome to the community forums,

First thing we need to check if the version H0HT99WW (2.59) is shown on the Main tab of the BIOS under Embedded Controller Version? See sample image below.

If so, we suggest to flash the BIOS back to its previous H0HT99WW (2.59) then try to update to the latest one H0HTA0WW (2.60) again. Update us on the result.

Regards,

Re: BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) for ThinkPad E530 fails to update ECP

First, I did get versions from Main tab of ThinkPad Setup as you asked.

I verified my copies of both BIOS versions, 2.59 & 2.60, rolled back to 2.59 and manually upgraded to 2.60 this time with the same result. The BIOS is at version 2.60 while ECP remains at 2.59, which is not the version detailed in the documentation.

PS: This thread is posted in wrong forum, but I was unable to move it.

Gory details follow:

BIOS updates 2.59 & 2.60 integrity verified by sha256sum, SysInternals sigcheck -vrs, Kaspersky KSN reputation & Application Advisor. Interesting to note that Kaspersky had only 95 records for 2.59 and 800 records for version 2.60.

Check ThinkPad Setup, Main tab:

UEFI BIOS Version:                       H0ETA0WW (2.60)

Embedded Controller Version:  H0HT99WW (2.59)

Secure Rollback Prevention: Changed to disabled

Save & Exit

Login as Admin

Disable KIS antivirus

Run h0uj19ww.exe BIOS updater

   Warning on older version

   Reboot

Winuptp.log:

System BIOS Version -> H0ETA0WW
Applying BIOS Version -> H0ET99WW
Note : Applying BIOS is older than System BIOS.
AC adapter/Battery check....OK.

BIOS Flashing....BIOS Flash completed.

Check ThinkPad Setup, Main tab:

UEFI BIOS Version:                       H0ET99WW (2.59)

Embedded Controller Version:  H0HT99WW (2.59)

Login as Admin

Disable KIS antivirus

Move Winuptp.log -> *.old

WINUPT -S

Message: There is already a file, -> Copy and replace file

Shutdown Windows from Menu

  Black screen, flashing red light

  Red light off

  Boot, BIOS version 2.60 displayed

Re: BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) for ThinkPad E530 fails to update ECP

This is a possible glitch with the BIOS. We've already submitted a forwarded this issue to our developers team to look into this further. In the meantime,
stay with the current H0ETA0WW 2.60 BIOS version and wait for the fix on the upcoming BIOS update.

Re: BIOS Update H0ETA0WW (2.60) for ThinkPad E530 fails to update ECP

Hi!

I can also confirm this problem/bug. I tried to update my E530c bios from 1.58 to 1.60, but BIOS ISO update utility said that "the process does not recognize this system". After that I tried to update from 1.58 to 1.59 which worked, but updating from 1.59 to 1.60 did not work either, and the error message was same ("the process does not recognize this system").

So hope this gets fixed as soon as possible to prevent Speculative Execution Side Channel -exploit been used by hackers on my computer.

My current UEFI BIOS Version: H0ET99WW (2.59)

Embedded Controller Version: H0HT99WW (2.59)

Machine Type Model: 336669G

Best Regards.
