Bug - numeric keyboard's equaton mark and brackets

2017-11-12, 19:50 PM

Hello,

Today I've noticed strange bug on my Thinkpad E570 (recently bought).

On numeric keyboard (top row):

  • when I press "=", I get ")",
  • when I press "(", I get "*",
  • when I press ")" i get "(".

Backspace works correctly.

The OS is Win 10 PRO, Fall Creators Update (1709)

Keyboard's layout is set to Polish programmer's.

Thinkpad Hotkey Features Integration is at version 9.0.0.6.

EDIT: Bios Version is 1.81

Has anyone experienced this problem and know possible solution?

Today I flashed the BIOS with the most recent version - 1.88 - and problem still persists. Does anyone have any ideas what could be wrong?

EDIT:

I performed another test - booted the computer with Linux. The mentioned keys also behave incorrectly. So it seems it is not a Windows specific bug.

Hello grzybson,

Could you post the MTM / order number of your system please?  It should look something like 20H?00????

Could you please ensure that version 9.0.0.7 of the Hotkey Features Integration driver is installed.

Hello,

I have just updated Hotkey Features Integration to version 9.0.0.7. It didn'y change anything.

The model of my Thinkpad is 20H6S05D00.

The physical layout of keyboard is English - International.

The logical layout in Windows is set to Polish (Programmer's).

Bios flashed to 1.88

Those 3 keys behave incoreclty under Windows as well as Linux.

What happens when you select under Windows the English International keyboard, the same as is physically installed, are the characters represented correctly please?

As the system was delievered witrh no operating system other than simple DOS, under Windows could you also ensure that you have the correct power management driver installed for your Windows version.

Also, which embedded controller version is installed?  Can be seen on the BIOS main page, 3rd entry.

Changing the keyboard layout to English - International didn't change anything.
(in fact it was one of the first things I've checked even before writing here).

The Win 10 was installed by the licensed reseller (they have the DOEM agreement with Microsoft) and the PM driver was already present - see the screenshot attached. No to mention that I personally installed Lenovo System update to ensure that I have all critical updates.

The Embedded Controller Version is R0DHT88W (1.88).

Could you change your selection to Polish 214, set it as default and then reboot.

Re: Bug - numeric keyboard's equaton mark and brackets

Hello!

I have a rather strange problem with my newly purchased E570. It features special keys consisting of additional = ( and ) characters right above the num keypad which is great (especially for Excel).

However after one or two days of using it my keys got mapped in a wrong way. What I'm getting now is this:
) instead of =
* instead of (
( instead of )

This is true for those 3 special keys present above numpad only, while ( )and = work normally with shift (outside of numpad). The OS is Windows 10x64

I have absolutely no idea what happened. Any ideas?

Regards,
Slawomir

It sounds like the keyboard layout  is for a different language from what is defined in windows.  You need to find out what the FRU of the keyboard is.  (on the other side)  Then see what windows thinks and what you want.

Thanks for a reply.

I've tested that copious times and the language settings are correct for a keyboard given (or so it seems, QWERTY, PL PLP - programmers) also a problem concerns those 3 keys only. All other regular keys work just fine, including = ( and ) characters on non-numeric part of the keyboard.

The problem persists even after system restore.

EDIT:
BIOS Flashed just now, PM Drivers installed. My machine is: 20H5A05XPB, keyboard is: Skywalker KBD,USI,DFN
01AX190 SN20K933581

It does work properly with those:
- Polish language (Windows-wise) and POL 214 keyboard settings (then it uses QWERTZ layout BUT physical layout is QWERTY which is a mess),
- English (US) language and US keyboard settings (and also POL PLP, after a quick switch until I log on again).

BUT we'd like to make this work under Polish language and POL PLP settings. And therefore we kindly ask for your help. Otherwise those keys are kind of useless, which is a real shame.
