Re: CDRW/DVDRW problem

Hi abel16,

Warm Greetings & welcome back to Lenovo Community, happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are facing issue with CDRW/DVDRW in your ThinkPad E540

Firstly what's the platform you are using which Windows. Have you tried to check in Safe Mode?

And also do check whether Optical drive is detecting in BIOS mode or not?

Please answer the above questions to help you further on.

Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!

Regards,
Prabhansh

Re: CDRW/DVDRW problem

Is the CD/DVD drive is not being shown in Device Manager?

  • Right-Click on Start and select Device Manager
  • Left-click on DVD/CD-Rom drives to expand

If not shown there, you may want to refer to page 68 of the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the Thinkpad Edge E550, and remove and re-insert the drive.

Note:  Make sure to do so only while the laptop is shut down, the power unplugged, the batter removed, and after holding the power button for 30 seconds to ensure all residual power has dissipated.

If it is being shown in Device Manager, try running the Windows Hardware Troubleshooter accessed by selecting Troubleshooting via the Windows Control Panel.

Good Luck,

More likely if Optical drive is not detecting in BIOS mode, its a hardware issue.
