I just purchased e531 68852bu.
When I boot up, I get an error code 0251.
0251: System CMOS Checksum bad - Default configuration used.
Real Time clock Error - Check Date and Time settings
I went to Bios and changed the date & time, which was 01/01/2001.
It does not fix the problem because it just goes back to 01/01/2001 and i still get the same error.
Is this a hardware failure?

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I'm sorry to hear that you are getting an error message stating “0251: System CMOS Checksum bad - Default configuration used, Real Time clock Error - Check Date and Time settings” while trying to boot your Lenovo ThinkPad E531.
Basically, this error shows up when your CMOS battery runs out of power. Probably, you will have to get your CMOS battery replaced to resolve the issue. Once you replace the backup battery, run BIOS Setup Utility to reset the time and date.
If you can replace the battery on your own, here is the FRU number: 04W4118. I would suggest you to visit here to buy replacement parts. Otherwise, I strongly recommend you to contact our technical support for assistance.
