Re: E540 Suspend/Resume failure

Amy_Lenovo was pretty clear - due to some STUPID political reasons her case is not accepted.

I'm glad that I've spent my money for relatively cheap ThinkPad, like E series. Can you imagine having the same problems with T or X series?

Also in case someone from Lenovo cares - my next laptop won't be Lenovo! Excellent hardware with crappy support!

My point in post
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/E540-Suspend-Resume-failure/m-p/1852163#M33626
is that Amy_Lenovo could have interpreted Lenovo's linux support page wrong, so we may have still a chance. However, she hasn't responded yet.

That's my hope as well.  Even if the diagram wasn't misinterpreted there, if you look farther up you will see that there is no model number attached to the e440 linux support.  Since they share a bios and the e440 is also affected, hopefully they will be able to take note.

Re: E540 Suspend/Resume failure

As others have noted, the Latest BIOS (version 2.17 as of 8 January 2015) does not fix the problem. I own a Thinkpad E540, model 20C6008QUS.

For convenience, I just added a posting with some links to bug reports to a thread in the linux discussion section.

I have purchasedLenovo ThinkPad Edge E540 20C6008QUS recently and I am facing the same problem with Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit server.

Re: E540 Suspend/Resume failure

Just an update to share that there is no news yet on my request for support to have suspend/resume in Linux repaired for E440/E540.

If I receive an official rejection, or positive news, I will share it here.

Thank you for your continued patience,

Re: E540 Suspend/Resume failure

The "Disable USB 3.0 in BIOS" workaround was not straightforward on my E440 laptop (brand new purchased 11 days ago). It didn't work at all on my existing Ubuntu 14 installation

I had to perform the following steps to 100% (so far) solve the issue on my machine (E440 laptop, existing Ubuntu 14 installation, BIOS version 2.16)

  1. Disable USB 3.0 support in the BIOS (version 2.16)
  2. Re-install Ubuntu from scratch
  3. After complete re-install (from scratch), verified ubuntu comes back from suspend and closing/opening laptop.

Does anyone have insight into why "enabled USB 3.0" behavior would persist in Ubuntu 14 after it was explicitly disabled in BIOS? I'm happy to have solved the problem, but I'd love to understand why the change wasn't effective without a re-install of Ubuntu.

Cheers

Re: E540 Suspend/Resume failure

Hi guys,

looks like there is new BIOS version - 2.17. Unfortunately my laptop is at home. Anyone willing to test it? I do hope there is a fix for the linux users out there!

P.S.

Very important fix. Great work, Lenovo!

Version 2.17

  • [Important] ISO file updated to fix flash failure issue.

At least there is a chance for me to be able to flash it this time Smiley Very Happy
