E555 Thinkpad screen freezing with color lines across it

Just purchased a Lenovo E555 Thinkpad and am getting the screen freezing with color lines across it.  I have to turn the Laptop off and reboot to get out of it.  I have updated the BIOS and this started from day one.  I have a service request in at the moment so any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Does it go away if you fiddle with the screen or squeeze the bezel?

Re: E555 Thinkpad screen freezing with color lines across it

Try updating your graphics driver? Also try a bootable Linux live environment and see if it happens there. If so, it might be a hardware issue (GPU failure).

Re: E555 Thinkpad screen freezing with color lines across it

Exact same problem here. Started a week ago and it's happening about once every day. Notice it's running really hot when it happens, and usually when I'm streaming video (but not always).

It feels like it's a hardware or driver issue. Not sure what else could be causing it.

Re: E555 Thinkpad screen freezing with color lines across it

I've owned this machine for 4 months and this happens once or twice a week. Had it happen this morning while scrolling through my Facebook news feed. Powered off and restarted and now I can cause it to happen at will by just scrolling to that same spot in the feed. Strange.

Re: E555 Thinkpad screen freezing with color lines across it

Just bought this machine 6 days ago. It started freezing since day one and it is getting only worse. I contacted product support, they ran multiple tests and they told me that this is not a hardware issue.
They suggested that reinstall windows... now I do not know if I should go that rout or I should just return the laptop!?

Re: E555 Thinkpad screen freezing with color lines across it

Others may  be having a different problem but the same symptom, but I have narrowed mine down.  As I mentioned in an earlier post, this only happens to me when scrolling pretty deep into my Facebook feed. After checking several things, I discovered this only happens when using the chrome browser. I suspect it is some kind of buffer problem.

Re: E555 Thinkpad screen freezing with color lines across it

Update on this problem:

I spent a few days messing around and it has not happened in months.

I can't say exactly what fixed it, but I did 2 major things:

  1. I downloaded the ATI drivers from ATI's website (not the Lenovo site, or Windows Update).  I'm currently on AMD R4 Graphics driver version 15.200.1062.0
  2. I started going through my Windows Services/startup and disabling a bunch of the Lenovo stuff that didn't look important, and some other services that took up a ton of resources (downloading Sysinternals Process Explorer let me know that Background Intelligent Transfer Service was destroying my computer's speed).  I basically went into MSconfig and turned off a bunch of stuff.

I also turned off some stuff in Chrome, but I'm not sure if that did much.
