E560 with Intel 3165 Wifi chipset: Wireless connection drops frequently

2016-11-10, 19:48 PM

Hi,

I use a Thinkpad E560 with Intel AC 3165 Wifi chipset.

My wireless connection drops frequently. I can see, that my laptop reconnects the wireless network, also the access log of my Wifi access point shows it. This happens each 10min.

And yes, I use the latest driver version 19.0.1.1 from http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/ThinkPad-Edge-laptops/ThinkPad-E560/downloads/DS105321

I have already checked these documents both in EN and DE language. They seem to have rather different content. None of the tips changed anything, though.

https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht070623

https://support.lenovo.com/us/de/documents/ht070623

I will give the Intel driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26346/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-und-Treiber-f-r-Windows-10?product=89450 version 19.20.0 at try.

All other devices in my wireless network work fine...

Does anyone have any other hints?

Cheers, Ivo

Do you use 2,4 or 5 GHz?

You could try to change the channel on your router web-interface (for instance 7 instead of 12). It often helps. I did so, too.

Hi Blotha,

thanks for the feedback. Meanwhile I've updated to the latest Intel driver 19.20.0 without any connectivity improvements.

Luckily a friend of mine joined me for today's evening and his laptop (an older Dell) shows the same connectivity issues! Therefore I now assume, that my AP has problems. I will keep you updated.

And yes, I've changed the channel several times already... :)

Cheers, Ivo

I'm helping a friend setup his new E560 - purchased Dec 2016. It too has the 3165 chip and has very intermittant wireless connectivity. He uses a BThomehub 3  - which is single band. Windows 10 shows the connection as OK even when connectivity lost. Disconnect/ReConnect brings it back for a short while.

Have tried changing channels on router with no effect.

Have updated driver to latest.

Interestingly it works fine in my home with a Hauwei HG633 Dual band router.

Next step to get new router, but just wondered if anyone has a solution to this problem
