Factory Restore Option Not available

I have a Lenovo E420, Windows 7. I am trying to factory restore my laptop but when I get to the menu from the pre-boot menu (F8-->Repair Computer), I only see Startup Repair, System Restore, Restore using System Image, Memory Diagnostic, and Command Prompt. I think there is supposed to be another option on Factory Restore but I do not have it on my laptop.

My laptop still has the Lenovo Recovery harddrive partition (I think this is related to factory restoration...). So can anyone help me enable Factory Restore to get my laptop back to its out-of-box condition or suggest another method for factory restoration? I do not have a backup CD or anything.

Re: Factory Restore Option Not available

Hi Kasual12356,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums!

Try the below steps as mentioned :

  1. Boot the system to the predesktop area, either via F11, ThinkVantage button or Rescue CD.
  2. Once in the predesktop area, hold down the shift, ctrl and alt keys and click Restart. A command prompt window will appear.
  3. At the prompt, type "Regedit" and press Enter to bring up the Registry Editor.
  4. Browse to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\TVT Common\SystemType
  5. set this key to 0.
  6. Close the Registry Editor and type "exit" at the command prompt to close the window.
  7. Click "Restore My System."

The "Restore to Factory Contents" option will now appear.

Please let us know, whether the above steps helped you.

Thank you, have a good day
