Help with an E530 integrated camera that can't be found?

Hey, I purchased a ThinkPad Edge E530 a couple months back, and I've been struggling to get the integrated camera to work.  I checked the security menu of ThinkPad Setup which verified that it's been enabled, and laptop does indeed have a small round thing above the screen that user guides indicate should function as a camera.  However, the laptop does not recognize the apparent existence of this camera.  Pressing F5 only provides me with audio-related options, and webcam utilizing websites insist that I do not have a webcam.

Under "Imaging devices" in the Device Manager, I only see "Xerox Phaser 3635MFP WIA" and the ever mysterious "Lexmark X422" that eternally has a yield sign over it.  That device has a message saying "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" under its device status, but I don't believe this is related to the camera.  Trying to update driver software through device manager finds nothing.  I have installed the "Integrated Camera Driver(1.0M )" version 1.2.1.18, but even after a restart, this supposed camera is nowhere to be found.

This has me at the end of my rope; I have no idea what to even try next let alone what exactly is wrong here.  I do still have a warranty on the machine if necessary, but I prefer not to have to send it in.  Last time I had to send it in, I went 3 weeks without the laptop. =/  Any suggestions are very appreciated, thanks.

Re: Help with an E530 integrated camera that can't be found?

I understand your frustration.  It's unusual that both devices you listed (Xerox Phaser 3635MFP WIA and Lexmark X422) are printers.  It should say Integrated Camera and ThinkVantage Virtual Camera under Imaging Devices in Device Manager.

Try one more thing.  Go into Start and open Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools.  Open Web Conferencing and the camera should be active when that comes up.  It will display whatever's in front of the camera (i.e., your face, etc.)

Could you do one more thing--uninstall the camera driver and reinstall it from this page:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS028647#install

and then run this Microsoft Hardware Troubleshooter and see if it finds a fix:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter

Let us know if that helps.

Re: Help with an E530 integrated camera that can't be found?

Neither Integrated Camera nor ThinkVantage Virtual Camera is there, unfortunately. =/  Only the printer/scanner things.

Web Conferencing is a no-go; it opens up audio options but nothing camera related.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and that did nothing as well; additionally that is the page I had already been downloading the driver from previously.  Then I ran the hardware troubleshooter and all it did was uninstall and reinstall as well, and it did not fix the issue.  It tells me that "Lexmark X422 has a driver problem" and that "The driver needs to be reinstalled."  Unfortunately, even the computer reinstalling it left the problem as "Not fixed."  I am quite baffled.

Re: Help with an E530 integrated camera that can't be found?

Sorry that didn't help.  I've talked with Myles_Lenovo and would it be possible for you to send me a screenshot of Device Manager where it shows the printers listed?

Also, if you will PM me your machine type model (4 digit number) and serial number, I will be able to check the exact specs for your ThinkPad.

Just to make sure, you did run the updates after installing?  And you're using Windows 7?

There's device manager, and the general tab of the properties of both items under there.

Yes, I am using Windows 7, and to the best of my knowledge I believe I ran the updates after installing.

I will PM you the machine type model and serial number shortly.

Thanks for your PM.  Could you also try one more thing?

Go to Start>type dxdiag in the search bar>enter>Dxdiag window should pop up and start auto-running,

once it finishes>Save All Information>save to desktop>open it up>Ctrl+F>type in cam>Find Next>and you should see Integrated Camera somewhere on the list.

Re: Help with an E530 integrated camera that can't be found?

Steve,

I just heard back from a Lenovo Level 2 and unfortunately, your E530 did not ship with an integrated camera.  You will need to purchase an external camera or contact Sales at 1-866-968-4465 if it was ordered with an integrated camera.

Ugh.  Called and confirmed that it wasn't supposed to ship with one.  I guess we made an error ordering it the second time then. -_-  Thanks. =/

For a follow up then, would it still be possible to get an integrated camera installed at this point?  And would that be something that, if possible, that I could plausibly purchase and install on my own, or would it be something that needs to be handled by Lenovo staff or computer technicians otherwise?

Re: Help with an E530 integrated camera that can't be found?

I'm not sure if Lenovo could install an integrated camera, but call Sales and check with them.  Anyone that does it other than Lenovo would void the warranty.

There's always the option of an external camera.

Re: Help with an E530 integrated camera that can't be found?

I have almost the same problem, but I have for sure integrated camera - now it doesn't work Smiley Sad

The laptop (E530, Win 7) does not recognize the existence of this camera.  Pressing F5 only provides me with audio-related options, and webcam utilizing websites insist that I do not have a webcam.

Under "Imaging devices" in the Device Manager, I only see Virtual Camera. I was trying to install  the "Integrated Camera Driver, but the camera was not detected ('setup failed' / 'please plugin camera and install driver again')

Thanks for any suggestions
