My laptop has a memory problem

2018-10-16, 23:05 PM

Goog day.

I bought Lenovo E480 one week ago in the USA, and now it has problems with memory. Firstly I had blue screen error with Code: IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL. And later when I decided to check memory by Memory Diagnostics I got: Hardware problems were detected in blue screen and later after restart: Your computer has a memory problems, it can cause a lose information or stop working ...

I checked Event viewer and found: The Windows Memory Diagnostic tested the computer's memory and detected hardware errors. To identify and repair these problems, contact the computer manufacturer.

I've bought it via Amazon in the USA and now I am in the UK, and really don't know what to do. Laptop is crucial for me because of study.

Characteristics are follow: i7 8th gen, 16 gm RAM, 500 Gb SSD, +AMD Radeon video card, Windows Pro

Really hope to your help

Welcome to the forum.

I would contact Lenovo Support in the UK to see what they can do for you. If your ThinkPad has an international warranty then they should be able to replace the RAM at no cost.

Your E480 has two RAM slots. I'm guessing that the 16GB is comprised of 2x 8GB modules. Remove one and run diagnostics. If that test  fails then swap the bad module with the module you removed and run diagnostics again. If that passes then the first module is defective. If you don't have an international warranty then it may be more expedient to just buy a new RAM module.
