Plugged in, not charging.

Hello,

I just bought a new battery and it's saying "Plugged in, not charging".
I have tried all different solutions like updating the lenovo power manager, updating the bios and removing the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.

None of them worked.

Anyone solutions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Soldier16,

Did you update the battery firmware update and battery Maintenance through Power Manager?

Also can you post the model your using and just verify for me that the battery your using is a lenovo battery with a lenovo fru number. Also post the Power Manager version your using and OS please.

Best Regards,

Hiro

Re: Plugged in, not charging.

I tried to update the battery firmware, but it said it was up-to date.
I am using an OEM battery and it doesn't have a FRU number written on it.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit. The power manager version is 6.32.
The battery which came laptop charges and discharges normally, but it only charges 20% of its storage capacity.

Thanks

Re: Plugged in, not charging.

Hey Soldier16,

Ok can you tell me what type of computer your using? Some of the new model Lenovo computers come with battery safeguard which is a chip that doesn't allow third party battery to work with your computer, only lenovo ones. I will add a link to list of compatible battery by system.

Also as a side note you can try to update your lenovo battery and see if that can solve the charge issue.

Re: Plugged in, not charging.

I tried updating my Lenovo battery, it still said no update available. I bought a 9-cell battery and it says it is compatible with part number 51J0500. I checked and that's the part number for Thinkpad Edge 14.

I bought this laptop in August 2010 in the US.

Re: Plugged in, not charging.

Hey soldier16,

Did you buy it from Lenovo.com? If you did you could have a dead battery and need to send it in and have them replace it. The part number you posted is the correct battery for your model computer and the power manager you have is the current version.

Here is where you can find the support phone number.

Re: Plugged in, not charging.

Hey Soldier16,

I have had other problems where people have bought lenovo battery from third party sites like you did that say they work with lenovo computers and have p/n and fru numbers but don't work. I would return it get your money back and suggest buying it ether from someone else or ordering the same battery with the same FRU 51J0500 ( it's $129.99 from lenovo which is why I assume you bought it from this site) from Lenovo.

Here is a link for other battery you can get from Lenovo.com:
