Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

Hi all, I have an E540 and Windows 8 (I also have Linux and the problem doesn't happen there, its just in Windows 8).

I can use tap to click when I navigate with the trackpad.

However, as soon as I start using the trackpoint, I can no longer tap to click. When I go back to using the trackpad, tap to click starts working again.

I've tried fiddling with the settings in control panel, but haven't found anything to change it yet (tap to click is checked there)

Re: Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

Hi Gibba,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with Tack pad on ThinkPad E540.

Please go to control panel -- mouse – UltraNav – Track Pad setting and Check the box Enable press to select option.

If you are unable to find UltraNav option, the you have to install touchpad drivers for that.

Click here to check the track pad setting.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Re: Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

Thanks for the reply. I don't have UltraNav settings, only 'Thinkpad Settings' which leads to Synaptics Control Panel. Thsi is in Windows 8. Are there a different set of drivers that could be used which has UltraNav ?

Hi Gibba,

Please check with updating the Touchpad drivers for Windows 8 OS.

Uninstall the current driver and then install the latest downloaded Touchpad drivers.

Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.

Re: Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

Thanks for the reply. There's still no option for that. There is for tap to click which only works when using the normal pad rather than trackpoint.

I can't help but feel its just a stupid (imo) software design issue, I know touch to click works, when in touchpad mode, just not in trackpoint mode (it would be helpful if someone can confirm this works for them and that its supposed to work). Feels a bit odd you can spend so much on a machine, and basic input is poorly designed, didn't think it possible.

Re: Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

Hi, thanks for the reply.

That option doesn't exist, on sensitivity.

Whatever, it would be nice for someone to be able to actually confirm if tap to click should work when using the trackpoint. It does in Linux, so I know the hardware is fine.

It just looks like a driver oversight unless someone can say otherwise. Bit surprised more people haven't mentioned anything about it though.

Re: Tap to click not working when using trackpoint

I didn't even know trackpoint button was available. That doesn't work either. So I assume its a driver problem then (as tap to click works in Linux).

Windows 8 says it has the latest driver. Can you confirm what the latest driver is that should work on Windows 8.1 ?
