I buy Lenovo thinkpad edge E531 few months back and initially, I noticed that laptop becomes unresponsive if I leave it in idle state and mouce pointer can move on screen but laptop becomes unresponsive. Then I started locking screen in order to avoid this situation. However since last week, laptop becomes unreponsive even in lock screen. I can not do any thing except hovering mouce pointer. I am annoyed. I am suspicious that may be some driver is cretaing this trouble. Does anyone has any clue. Thanks

We understood that your query is about system not starting up after idle mode on ThinkPad Edge E531.
Make sure the Windows and Lenovo drivers are up to date too.
Please download ThinkVantage System update application from Lenovo driver link and update all the drivers.
Try clean boot to find out which program is causing your pc running slowly or unresponsive
Basically you have to disable all startup items and NONE-Windows services through msconfig then restart your pc then put it back to sleep or idle mode and see if the problem is solved?

I keep update to my drivers however after reading different articles, it seems to me that biometric scanner creates this issue. After disabling it, I did not get this issue so far.

What happens if you revert to the driver your E531 shipped with? Have you tried different drivers?
Perhaps you could try to uninstall the driver in 'Device Manager' and in 'Programs and Features' and then reinstall these:
- Lenovo Fingerprint Manager for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)

I encoutered with same problem again even though finger print scanner device was disable in Bios and now I suspect that it is something else is wrong. After hard reborting, hard driv usage stays at 100 % eventhough I am not doing anything.

Please check with uninstalling the current Display driver, and download the latest driver from Lenovo driver page.
Also check with updating the system BIOS.
Below is the link to enter the downloads page and download latest application accordingly, please click on "Select Product" then in "QUICK PATH" enter the MTM no. select the exact model.
