Re: ThinkPad E485/E585 - Firmware bug ACPI IVRS table

maybe you can fix the ACPi via DSDT  - Its common on OSX/Hackintosh but also possible in Linux .

There are some Skills needed, some infos here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/DSDT

My E560 has some worse ACPI too, but its working with some ACPI errors in Syslog Smiley Wink

Re: ThinkPad E485/E585 - Firmware bug ACPI IVRS table

A new BIOS version was released:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-edge-laptops/thinkpad-e485...

Unfortunately, it does not fix the issues for me. I was hoping that it would, because the issues seem to be fixed for the A485 for a while now and it is basically the same platform (e.g., see https://gist.github.com/wnarifin/d2b9389890d59d11eec59db4521f4c69). Any reasons why the fixes for the A485 cannot be applied to E485?

This is just becoming ridiculous. I won't be buying another Lenovo product.

I belive that you should give a try with kernel 5 or above versions, and then check results and complain like that again if you are unsatisfied, these guys are working on it, its AMD's fault

Re: ThinkPad E485/E585 - Firmware bug ACPI IVRS table

The new bios addresses the following issues

[Problem fixes]
- Fixed SCCM/WinPE low resolution issue (800x600).
- Fixed an issue that hidden WMI cannot use.

Really disappointing that this does not fix the linux issues.

I'm afraid we might never get native linux support for this notebook.

I bought this Thinkpad because I kept hearing how great they were. Now something as simple as being able to install linux is botched and won't be addressed. Gonna tell everyone I know to not bother with Lenovo.

Here's a guide to start linux mint on the E585 if someone needs it: https://bamelex.wordpress.com/2019/04/15/running-linux-mint-19-1-on-the-thinkpad-e585/

For me everything works fine so far.

Re: ThinkPad E485/E585 - Firmware bug ACPI IVRS table

For some reason, I've been getting lockups again, ie. fail to resume from suspend/sleep.  I'm on the new bios but nobody else seems to be reporting it so that must not be it.  I'm on 5.1.0rc5 as of last Sunday but I think it started before that.  I used to have the same suspend/wake  issues on my desktop that has the Ryzen 1700.  Ultimately, the motherboard bios added c-states control.  I was able to disable c6 and all was well.  Since there are no such options in most laptops, I tried it with this py script.  I just did this today but so far it has successfully resumed each time.

Couple of points, if you're using arch there is an aur package named disable-c6-systemd .  I also had the proper modules loaded including "msr" but for some reason the script couldn't read it.  In the current kernel it's loaded as a module.  I recompiled the kernel to remove it as a module since it's really only support and now it is accessible to the script.  Just start/enable "disable-c6" and it's up and running.

It's been annoying but I think it's fixed now.

I wouldn't call it a fix though, more a workaround to an unfixable hardware bug in first generation Ryzens. It should be enough to disable package C6 by the way, not all C6 states.
