ThinkPad Edge E420 Keyboard Replacement

I have purchased ThinkPad Edge E420 1141-RY4 from Korea with the following configuration:

  • Intel Core i5-2410M @ 2.3GHz (up to 2.9GHz with TurboBoost)
  • 8GB DDR3 SDRAM - Originally 4GB (1333MHz)
  • Intel HD Graphics 3000 & ATI Radeon HD6630M (1GB dedicated)

Although I am Korean, I don't use much of the Korean input and I also type without looking at the keyboard. Also, the keyboard seems a bit "crammed" with the extra letters stuffed onto the keys.

After some comparison with my local retail shops' (Singapore) ThinkPad Edge, I realized the following differences:

  1. Right Alt key is replaced by "한/영" (Korean/English input switch)
  2. Right Ctrl key is replaced by "한자" (Chinese character input)
  3. The keys somehow seem to be shaped differently (could be optical illusion due to extra letters on the keys)

Is it possible to fit in the fully English keyboard into my ThinkPad Edge?

Even if the keyboard does fit, will the English keyboard work as it should, or like the Korean keyboard (with Alt and Ctrl replaced with other functions)?

 Thanks in advance

Re: ThinkPad Edge E420 Keyboard Replacement

You can buy a US English keyboard no problem. Swap it in and the system should recognize it directly.
