ThinkPad Edge E520 RAM Upgrade

Hello . I'm looking to upgrade RAM in my laptop and I'm not sure what to go for. My laptop is an i3 with 2Gb RAM & 320GbHD running Windows 7 Home P and I only want to add 1 additional Chip. So my question is this, Will my  installed 2GB RAM allow to put in just an additional 2Gb or will it allow me to put in a 4Gb chip giving my laptop a total of 6Gb of RAM?

Re: ThinkPad Edge E520 RAM Upgrade

You should be able to use a 4GB chip for 2+4=6GB with no problems.

Re: ThinkPad Edge E520 RAM Upgrade

Thanks for that .... Do you know if I order a chip from Lenovo, I would get it from the same manufacture (Samsung) Mine came with a (Samsung 2Gb DDR3 M471B5773DH0-CH green energy 30nm chip. Or would Lenovo send out some compatible from another manufacture which yes maybe compatible but my not be a green 30nm chip like mine.

I tried to get info out of Lenovo about the 2 chips I may be interested in buying but got no help back really! (2Gb Part no 55Y3710 or the 4Gb 55Y3711. Would you know where I could get info on these as the Lenovo web site gives no info on where they come from or if they are 50nm - 40nm or 30nm like mine..

Re: ThinkPad Edge E520 RAM Upgrade

So I cant reply to ColonelONeill and ask the same question to others? OK ...So how do i go about asking another question? Do I have to close this thread before opening another? Do I have to give it another tittle as not to confuse others?

Re: ThinkPad Edge E520 RAM Upgrade

Hi oneill_cm64 and welcome to the forum!

You can reply to Colonel in the same thread, and when you're doing so you're not only asking the question from him but also from other users of the community. Also, there is no need to create a new thread if the existing is on the same or similar subject. You're talking about memory upgrade here, let's say you've questions about your ThinkPad's battery life, you can ask them by creating a new topic anytime.

Hope this clears up the confusion.

Re: ThinkPad Edge E520 RAM Upgrade

Heh. I'd just buy some generic RAM. You could go Lenovo, and it'd be covered under the same warranty as the machine after you install it.

Oh I see, thanks for clearing that up. Shame though, had more response about threads than the questions in hand!
