I got my ThinkPad a few days ago and I've finally gotten the camera to work. After I had finally fixed the camera by installing the proper drivers though, it came up with a new problem: the camera does not display color, nor does it let me enable anything to display colors. The "ColorEnable" option is grayed out when I access its settings through the ThinkVantage Communications Utility. I've tried modifing every single option to no avail. No matter what application uses the webcam, it's always in grayscale. Even if just the laptop itself is the only one using it, it's still in grayscale. It leads me to believe that it's a problem with the camera itself and not any one application.
I have not been able to find any solution at all no matter how hard I try to look. Any help would be appreciated. All my camera drivers are up to date as of today.

Actually, the way you've described the camera with illumination is exactly how mine reacts as well. There has to be a very good amount of light for there to be any color whatsoever.

Have you tried to contact the Technical Support? I have sent twice the computer but according to them everything is working.
This should be indicated on the specifications....
- "Camera in B&W with a Retro-Vintage style and poor quality"
I am really disappointed.
This shouldnt be like this...

Thank god i came across your thread. I recently purchased an L440 off the lenovo website and had the exact same problem with the integrated camera. For several days I repeatedly reinstalled the drivers and tried looking for different drivers until i read what ya'll have posted. I tested the camera in bright light and true enough, the colors come when there is sufficient lighting. My god why is the camera like that? is it some kind of quality enhancing feature? Or does the camera really just suck? Im just happy that it isn't some kind of hardware defect.

Maybe, but still the camera sensor is under any critic... Actually i belive the old thinkpads had better cameras... not to mention other manifacturers...
I don't think that a bit, just a bit better sensor would be much more expensive... maybe a dollar or two ? : )))
