Thinkpad E530 won't boot from CD

I just purchased a Thinkpad E530. The problem is that it comes preinstalled with win 8 and I want to install linux instead. During boot I press F12 to get the boot menu and select my DVD drive, but the drive just spins up and then I get returned to the boot menu. I read something about that I need to disable UEFI Secure boot in the bios (which I did) and then set the UEFI/Legacy Boot to Legacy only (did that too), but it still won't work. I'm so frustated about this, that I'm considering returning the laptop.

Re: Thinkpad E530 won't boot from CD

See if this helps:  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT076905

  1. Restart the PC and press F1 to enter Setup.
  2. For ThinkPad: Navigate to the RESTART menu.
For ThinkCentre and ThinkStation:  Navigate to the EXIT menu
  3. Select OS Optimized Defaults and change the value to Disabled.
  4. Select Yes to continue to disable the OS Optimized Defaults.
  5. Press F9 to load Setup Defaults.
  6. Select Yes to confirm the loading default configuration.
  7. Press F10 to save and exit Setup.
  8. If necessary, press F12 to access the boot menu and select your boot device.

If this doesn't fix the problem, double-check to make sure your DVD can be booted on another computer.
