Thinkpad Edge 14 Memory Upgrade

I bought a Thinkpad Edge 14 (0578-A99, intel processor 480M) Laptop. Laptop currently has 4 GB of  PC3-8500.  I want to know if I can upgrade to 8 GB using PC3-8500 DDR3 (running at 1066)?  Lenovo website says I cannot. It says I can upgrade if I used DDR3 1333.  Is this correct?

Crucial web site says I can use 8 GB of DDR3 1066.  Has anyone upgrade the memory to 8 gigs?

Also does the laptop run at 1333mhz if I used the DDR3 1333 memory or will it downgrade back to 1066mhz?

Re: Thinkpad Edge 14 Memory Upgrade

I don't know much about the edge , but your product over view says

  • PC3-8500 Non-Parity (NP) Double Data Rate Three (DDR3) Technology
  • Two SO-DIMM Slots
    • The use of 1066 MHz SO DIMM memory is recommended for this system.
  • 1 GB, 2GB or 4GB memory
  • Supports up to 8GB maximum memory
Note: Only 64-bit operating systems support more than 3GB of system memory (RAM).  if you use theDDR3 @ 1333Mhz it would run at the bus speed of your machine 1066Mhz
