Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

When I play audio above volume 35, the sound gets distorted. It's from the right side speaker only. Does anyone know the solution to this problem?

BIOS is up to date and OS is Windows 10. Thank you!

Re: Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

Thank you for your response.

I reinstalled the audio drivers but the problem persists. I wasn't aware of the problem until a few days after updating the OS to Windows 10 but it's possible that the issue occurred from time of updating the OS. However, the problem was still there when I downgraded to Windows 7.

Re: Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

Hi jychun412,

Please check the sound hardware system, to check the same please go to device manager and select sound, video and game controllers and you will get a drop down with list of drivers and click on the driver which you are in use ( for example Conexant or Realtek) and check whether the drivers are updated?

Step 2:  Check whether the audio services is working fine, to check the same please follow the steps as given, in search box type services, it will take you to the services page, in services select windows audio and you will have option at the top task bar something like pause symbol keep the pointer over there it will indicate restart service and click on it, later it will take you through the process.

If none of the above steps does not work then try checking in the headphone whether you have the same issue.

Please let us know, whether the above steps helped you.

Thank you, have a good day

Regards,

Naveen.v

Re: Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

Hi Naveen,

The Conexant audio driver was already updated. I restarted Windows Audio service but I still have the problem. I don't have any issue with sound when I use a headphone.

Re: Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

Hi jychun412,

Try the below given steps:

Step 1:

Run Playing Audio troubleshooter and check if it helps.

  1. Open the Play Sound troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel.
  2. In the search box, type troubleshooter and then click Troubleshooting.
  3. Under Hardware and Sound, click Troubleshoot audio playback.
  4. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Step 2:

Try disabling the audio enhancements and check if that helps.

  1. Type sound by clicking the Start button, and clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type sound, and then click Sound.
  2. On the Playback tab, click Speakers, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Enhancements tab, and then select the Disable all enhancements check box. If you don't see an Enhancements tab in the Speakers Properties dialog box, those features are not Available for your speakers and this procedure is not applicable to your computer.

Please let us know, whether the above steps helped you.

Thank you, have a good day

Regards,

Naveen.v

Re: Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

Hi Naveen,

Unfortunately, none of those steps helped. The troubleshooter couldn't identify any issue and audio enhancements were already disabled.

Re: Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

Hi jychun412,

Make sure your speakers are correctly connected to your computer.

Many computers have three or more jacks that connect to a sound card or sound processor, including a microphone jack, line-in jack, and line-out jack. Your speakers should be plugged in to the line-out jack. If you're not sure which jack this is, try plugging your speakers in to each of the jacks to see if any of them produce sound.

Is the same issue with the VLC and Windows media player? If you do not have any one of this application, then try checking with the application which you do not have.

If none of the steps doesn’t work, then you have to contact to the nearest authorised service centre or contact to the Lenovo customer support for the further assistance.

Please let us know, whether the above steps helped you.

Thank you, have a good day

Regards,

Naveen.v

Re: Thinkpad Edge E220s - Internal Speaker Distorted Sound Problem

Sorry for the late reply.

The speaker that I have a problem with is internal speaker, not external, so I don't have any speaker plugged in. And the problem is the same with any application I use. Thanks for your assistance anyway.

I do not want to spend any money to fix this issue so I just adjusted Left Right balance of the speaker so that the volume level of the right side of speaker is 40 and the left 100. When I need the volume to be louder, I just connect an external speaker.
