After a few months of very little use only using it once a week or less to watch a movie my laptop refuses to power on. I checked my A/C adapter with a multimeter and its showing normal 20V. I then took out the battery and connected it just to the adapter and it still wouldn't turn on nor would any of its lights flicker. I also tried to disconnect the battery and adapter and hold down the power button for 5 whole minutes but still nothing. What should I do? I checked and its still under warranty.

Call Lenovo Tech Support @ 1-800-426-7378 ASAP!
From what I have read in other threads this is a known failure mode for late 2011 E420's and E520's.
I have my fingers crossed for my E420 manufactured 10/2011.

Thanks DAF I called and received the box immediately the next day and I shipped it out. I was wondering if there's anything I can do to help prevent this from happening again like updating the BIOS or using/not using surge protectors or is it just luck and nothing I do matters much? I ask this because after reading this forum I'm beginning to get worried about my machine.

There is nothing you can do to prevent this. From what I know from the forum, a batch of late 2011 motherboards have a defective eeprom chip. What scares me is that some have had the motherboard replaced by Lenovo and then had the new motherboard fail again!
