Touchpad not working for mouse control

Thinkpad E440,  Windows 8.1 with latest drivers installed.

My touchpad will only work for gestures and clicking.  It will *not* work for being able to control the mouse movement.

I notice that in the control panel on the "mouse properties/ThinkPad" tab, in the dropdown list for "Pointing Options" I only have "Use Touchpad Only" and "Use Trackpoint Only".  On another E440 where the mouse control does work it has a 3rd option of "Use Touchpad and Trackpoint".

Any suggestions?

Re: Touchpad not working for mouse control

Nope. This did not work. I have already tried this, but I tried it
again. All the stuff for the touchpad mouse movements is still grayed out.

Re: Touchpad not working for mouse control

No I have not tried to restore.  Is there a specific place I should do that?  And what exactly will I possibly lose by doing this?

Re: Touchpad not working for mouse control

Restoring to original defaults did not fix the problem.  The option to use the Touchpad is still grayed-out.  See attached.
