Window 7 product key issue after factory reset

Hi  hopefully someone can help.   I recently needed to do a factory reset on my Edge thinkpad E530.   I then wanted to upgrade to windows 10  but the install failed saying invalid product key   why would this be as i am assuming that the product key is what the system was supplied with

Re: Window 7 product key issue after factory reset

Hello TJMA42,
Do you have your Windows 7 product key? If so make a note of it in case you need to contact Microsoft. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10749/windows-10-find-product-key

The free upgrade to Windows 10 has ended. Was your attempt to upgrade done with a purchased Windows 10 retail copy?

See if this information helps: https://www.redmondpie.com/windows-10-product-key-and-activation-how-to-find-it-and-how-it-works/

Post back if you still have problems.

Hi Bugbatter  thank you for your reply.  i did upgrade when it was first free but didnt like it then so went back to widows 7.  however  this was after the roll back time and a friend restored my system i believe withe the backup /recovery disks.  Maybe he did not.  I have got the recovery disks so i will try those.
