e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

This laptop has a 1x1 11bgn lan card in it and I'm only getting from 24 to 48 mbps.  How can I get to connect at higher rates. Thanks,  Jerry

Re: e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

It depends on how close you are to the router and how strong the connection is. If you're far away or there's a lot of interference, the connection speed will automatically drop to ensure data integrity.

You may want to see if your access point is operating in 802.11g mode.

Re: e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

I'm not more than 30 ft from the router. Also have 4 other laptops,  1 lenovo x61, and 3 dells that connect at 54 mbps. None of these laptops are wireless N.  The router is a is a actiontec  1000 dsl which is also the modem. How do I tell what speed the router is connecting at? The e520 has  a wireless n card and thats why I don't understand why it connects at these low speeds. Thanks for the help,   Jerry

Re: e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

Is it a ThinkPad wireless card or a Intel Wifi 1000?

Re: e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

In my experience, the Realtek cards suck. It would totally fail to hold a connection in a lecture hall where my T400 with an Intel 5300 had no problems whatsoever.

Your best bet, software wise, is to get the latest Realtek drivers off of Realtek's site rather than Lenovo's driver matrix. I found the Realtek ones were slightly better.

Re: e520 thinkpad edge low wireless mbps

I'd like to install a wimax 6250 wireless, but it takes one specific to a lenovo. I can't find the numbered one I need and lenovo support is missing or don't know themselves. If anyone can tell me a branded 6250 for lenovo would you please let me know.  Thanks,  Jerry
