lenovo thinkpad edge E520

Hello all

new to the forum and have a question about this computer - the thinkpad edge E520

I want to use it for digital editing and need to input video via firewire

I know the E520 does not have a firewire - but I have an expresscard - to 6 pin firewire - adaptor - will this work?

Any help gratefully appreciated

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

is your adapter a 34 mm expresscard? if it is then it should work, as long as it supports the operating system that you have.

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

thanks for your help

yes it's a 34 expresscard

forgive my ignorance - but what is the issue with the operating system ?

I thought the E520 ran Windows 7 - does this support a firewire to expresscard connection?

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

what is the brand of you firewire expresscard? Whether it will work in windows 7 depend on driver support from the manufacturer of this card.

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

it's a Lindy

it worked fine in my old laptop - A Fujitsu Siemens Amilo P1510 - running Windows XP

my concern is that the old laptop had built in firewire - whilst the edge E520 does not

once again thanks for your help - I'm not hugely technically savvy

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

just try it and see, if it doesn't work you could always get another one cheaply from ebay.

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

yes but I've not bought the computer yet

I want to know it will connect to firewire via expresscard before I buy it

otherwise I'll have wasted £600

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

Expresscard slot can support firewire card as long as the firewire card supports the version of operating system on the laptop.

Re: lenovo thinkpad edge E520

you can't unless you have machine to try on, or look up the model of the card on the net and see whether windows 7 driver support is listed.
