From last few days my thinkpad edge restarting once a day approx after an hour when I first start for the day.
It just restarts without any error and screen goes blank (not blue screen) suddenly following by restarting system itself.
It is quite odd as throughout the day it will not occur again!!
I can not find auto restart schedule program or any other schedule that can occur this restart.
Can anyone please help me solve this restart issue or cause of it?

I've had a similar problem with a computer in the past, and I know that, in my case, it was normally caused by overheating. Now, that is not to say that overheating is your issue, but I have some questions that should help us understand the problem further:
1) Before the computer shuts down, is the fan spinning fast/loudly?
2) Are there any sounds or any signals that signify the computer is about to shut down, or does it just abruptly happen?
3) Can you remember any programs that you installed or actions you may have taken just before this problem started occuring?
4) What is your machine and model type?
Thanks in advance,

Thanks for your help.
Model: Thinkpad Edge 15 - 0301 GQG - about 2 yr. old system
It restarts suddenly without any signs.
It does have problem of heating but it is like longtime problem.
It works fine after restarting itself and not restarting itself.
I had previous sony laptop with heating problem from which I am aware that once it gets hot it keeps restarting itself.
But this system just restart once and however not repeating through out the 8-9 hour working period of the day.
I did not make any recent changes in softwares or hardware that can cause this but I am not sure if any automatic updates can cause of this.

Hi again, pranavjoshi
Thanks for the quick reply. I've looked over your system and its features, and I would recommend making sure all the software and drivers is up to date, if you haven't already. You can find the drivers on Lenovo's support website here. To filter the drivers, you can select your operating system from the drop down menus. Ensure that these drivers are up to date, and download then install them.
Good luck, and let me know how it goes,

I tried many ways from last we spoke and I still have the problem of restarting after trying everything.
- Updated all drivers
- Formatted system to prevent it happening from any software errors
My laptop however getting heat up more than usual, is it something that related to hardware problem?
Please recommend if anyway I can resolve this issue with your help.

Does the heat issue happen when you are using the computer lightly (web browsing, emails, etc.?) or does it only occur when the machine is under strain? Also, has the heat gotten bad enough that the machine will shut down without warning?

Yes I use system for web browsing only and within hour or so it just shutdowns itself and restarts automatically.
I can feel the heat (very hot) on the bottom - mainly left side of the system (where exost fan grill is located - all the left side including centre part). Surprisingly right side is cool - power socket side.
It is winter like weather in UK at present and it is still heating up like anything.
Please let me know how can I resolve this?

Hi again, Pranav
Does the fan get loud and/or spin very fast when the machine is starting to get hot? Also, is the computer sitting on a desk or table when you are using it? You want to make sure that the computer is getting as much airflow as possible when in use.

The fan seems to be running bit loud / faster as the system gets hot.
System mostly is on Table & I believe its got good airflow beneath to keep system cool.
Shall I buy one of those external usb fan that goes beneath laptop to help it keep cool?
