E420s replace WiFi vs. matching WiFi adapters list?

Hi,

I have E420s (Type: 4401-2RG) with "1x1 11b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter".

I'd like to replace the adapter to a one that works in GHz (in the same time or separately).

I tried one from my other laptop but I receive an error while booting about unsupported device.

Does anyone have a list of supported WiFi card adapters working with 5GHz for E420s?

Does it need to be "Lenovo branded" adapter or anyone from a list?

Many thanks/ jahro

Re: E420s replace WiFi vs. matching WiFi adapters list?

you mean you want to get a wireless card that can operate in 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz bandwidth in MIMO mode?

You can get:

Intel 6205, 6300, 2x2 11 b/g/n wireless card, but they are all need to be from Lenovo. Aftermarket cards won't work, since there is a bios whitelist that blocks any aftermarket card from working.

Re: E420s replace WiFi vs. matching WiFi adapters list?

Well, it doesn't need to work in MIMO mode.

Do you mean that no matter which I decide to get, I need to buy it at Lenovo...? Do they change anything in the cards, or I can buy one anywhere but needs to be exactly the same that Lenovo sells?

Is it possible to get the whitelist?

Thanks/jahro

Re: E420s replace WiFi vs. matching WiFi adapters list?

it has to be from a Lenovo that has a FRU printed on it.

Whitelist is not released to the general public.

Re: E420s replace WiFi vs. matching WiFi adapters list?

Hi,

it is possible to change half size adapter with full size WLAN adapter ? I tried to insert atheros full size wifi adapter into pci express slot but not recognized by OS.
