Ive been plauged by this issue since buy my Edge 13".
It appears that when I go into the Microphone properties and *check* "Listen to this Device" the high pitched sound goes away for good. You amy also notice that it goes away when you are on the "REcording" tab but none of the others.
Hope this fixes it for someone - let me know.

...and after 3 years of product usage, finally out of warranty and no reply or interest from Lenovo on this matter (like I said, design fault/error, EMI noise on the audio output - speaker and headphone/lineout) the problem still persists... The conclusion, combined with the serious degrading of quality in other product lines, like the famous and long lasting T series is that mentioned by you above - switch to something else...
Well, it seems to be a global trend today, in the consumer age.
